Brancoder

A modern video conversion application with a dark theme interface, built using Python, PyQt6, and FFmpeg.

I built this with my own preferred workflow so that I can convert video files the way that I prefer to.

***PLEASE NOTE - currently there are issues with the app that are unresolved. Using this app is not recommended.

Requirements

  • Python 3.8 or higher
  • FFmpeg installed on your system
  • PyQt6
  • ffmpeg-python

Installation

  1. Make sure you have FFmpeg installed on your system:

  2. Install the required Python packages:

    pip install -r requirements.txt

Usage

  1. Run the application:

    python video_converter.py
  2. Use the interface:

    • Click "Open Video File" to select a video for conversion
    • Click on the file name and the file details will show in the box below (File, dureation, etc.)
    • Click the PLAY button to activate the video in the preview windows
    • Mark In and Out points by using 'I' and 'O' - or leave them be for the whole video
    • use left and right keys to move one frame forward or backward
    • Choose your desired output format, codec, and quality settings
    • Click "Render" to start the conversion
    • The problem will review the operation to make sure the correct wrapper and codec are selected
    • Estimated file size will appear
    • Click 'YES' to continue the render
    • Monitor the progress in the right panel

Note

Make sure FFmpeg is properly installed and accessible from your system's PATH before running the application.

  • Added ability to use Space to play/pause
  • Use I/O to set in/out points
  • Use Left/Right arrows for frame-by-frame navigation
