For Windows x64, download UFriend-0.1.42.exe, quit the older UFriend from the system tray, and open the new EXE. Your existing workspace and settings remain available. No installer, manual extraction, Node.js, FFmpeg installation, or 7-Zip is required.

Changes / 更新內容

• Fixed packaged Windows app requests being rejected when Windows uses an 8.3 short path. Translation settings now save and navigation works with either long or short paths. Origin checks still reject other files, subframes, and remote pages.

The included FFmpeg 8.1.2-ufriend1 and its source archive are byte-for-byte identical to v0.1.41. UFriend runs FFmpeg as a separate command-line process. GitHub shows each asset's SHA-256 digest for download verification.

內建 FFmpeg 與其對應原始碼沿用 v0.1.41 已審核的相同位元組。GitHub 會顯示各檔案的 SHA-256 摘要，可用於驗證下載內容。

Validation / 驗證

• The actual v0.1.42 EXE passed long-path and 8.3 short-path regression checks for initialization, translation-input persistence, settings saving, navigation, and graceful exit. Unit tests cover rejection of other files, subframes, and remote pages.
• All 19 portable release checks passed, including a clean profile, real subtitle export and cloud-audio preparation, settings persistence, single-instance protection, clean diagnostics, normal exit, and temporary extraction cleanup.
• Syntax checks passed for 130 scripts. The initial 890-test run had 888 passes, one skip, and one Windows EPERM failure; all 12 portable tests passed when rerun. Translation and HTML-mail scoped smoke checks passed. The full smoke run reached 27 scenarios before stopping at fixture generation because the bundled runtime does not include libvpx; it is not reported as a full smoke pass.
• Windows CI completed successfully for release commit d19ee91004c7bddcbde69485a2ecf21f1c19b5bb.
• The unchanged FFmpeg source audit is reused from v0.1.41 after verifying the same runtime binary, source archive, configuration, and build recipe. The original runtime passed Windows verification.

AI features require separately configured local services or compatible cloud APIs; model weights and services are not included. Gmail requires your own Google Desktop OAuth configuration and authorization. This public build contains no configured OAuth client, API keys, or personal data. The EXE is unsigned; Windows may show a publisher/reputation warning.

What changed

• FFmpeg is included for captioned MP4 export and preparing audio for cloud transcription. Settings → General → Media runtime shows that it is ready without a separate installation.
• The bundled runtime is UFriend's source-built FFmpeg 8.1.2-ufriend1, based on FFmpeg revision 38b88335f99e76ed89ff3c93f877fdefce736c13. It includes libass, x264, LAME, FreeType, FriBidi and HarfBuzz, with Windows DirectWrite font discovery. Native AAC encoding is enabled; network protocols, automatic dependency detection and nonfree components are disabled.
• The executable runs FFmpeg as a separate command-line process. Complete corresponding source, build scripts, dependency input archives, configuration and licenses accompany this release.

Workspace data and encrypted credentials remain in your Windows user data directory across restarts and EXE updates. The launcher uses a separate temporary extraction directory for each run. Keep the downloaded EXE in place until UFriend has fully quit.

AI features still require separately configured local services or compatible cloud APIs; model weights and services are not included. Gmail requires your own Google Desktop OAuth configuration and account authorization. The public app contains an empty OAuth template and no API keys or personal data.

This EXE is unsigned; Windows may show a publisher/reputation warning. GitHub displays a SHA-256 digest next to each uploaded asset; use that value to verify your download.

Validation

• 884 local tests passed with the new FFmpeg and ffprobe; no failures or skipped tests.
• The actual standalone EXE passed 19 checks covering a clean first launch, bundled-runtime detection, captioned video, cloud-audio preparation, persistent settings, repeated launches, single-instance protection, normal exits, temporary-directory cleanup and clean diagnostics. Chinese subtitle glyphs were also visually checked in the exported video.
• The source-built runtime passed Windows execution verification. The seven source inputs, build recipe, generated configuration, binary hashes and license notices were checked against the actual runtime and complete-source archives.

UFriend 0.1.39 for Windows x64

This release adds a single-file portable EXE and persistent optional media-runtime installation from Settings.

Download and run

1. Download UFriend-0.1.39-Portable.exe below and save it in a folder you want to keep.
2. Quit any older running UFriend from the system tray.
3. Double-click the EXE. No installer wizard, Node.js, or manual extraction is required.

The launcher extracts its bundled application into a separate temporary folder for each run. Keep the original EXE in place while UFriend is running. Workspace data and encrypted credentials remain in the Windows user data directory and are retained when you replace the EXE. Restarting from the system tray launches the original portable file.

GitHub's automatic Source code downloads are for development. This release is not code-signed.

Optional media runtime

For captioned-video export or cloud speech transcription, open Settings → General → Media runtime（設定 → 一般 → 影音元件）:

• Download and install media runtime downloads the pinned FFmpeg build directly from Gyan and verifies SHA-256 hashes. It requires an existing 7-Zip installation.
• Select extracted package installs from an already extracted official package, without downloading or requiring 7-Zip.
• Installation progress, completion, and retry guidance appear in Settings. The installed runtime lives in the persistent user data directory, so it survives quitting, restarting, and replacing the EXE.

FFmpeg binaries are not bundled. Local Whisper continues to use its own separately installed runtime.

AI and Gmail setup

Configure your own compatible cloud API or separately installed local model services. Model weights and PC model-service repositories are not included. Gmail requires your own Google Desktop OAuth client configuration; no shared OAuth client or account credentials are embedded. EML import and local drafts work without Gmail.

Verification and licensing

Automated unit and media integration tests, 42 existing UI scenarios, and the new media-installation UI scenario passed. The single EXE was separately tested for standalone launch, settings persistence, runtime detection, concurrent-launch handling, and normal temporary-directory cleanup. Its 4,600-file application payload was audited for production dependencies, notices, and excluded private data. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the executable checksum.

UFriend is MIT-licensed. Third-party components retain their own licenses; the embedded application preserves Electron, Chromium, and production dependency notices. See third-party notices.

A local-first desktop workspace for email, transcription, OCR, and AI writing, with English and Traditional Chinese interfaces.

Download and run

1. Download UFriend-0.1.38-windows-x64.zip below.
2. Extract the entire folder to a writable location.
3. Open UFriend.exe inside the extracted folder. Keep all adjacent DLLs and resources. Node.js is not required.

GitHub's automatic Source code downloads are for development and are not runnable desktop packages. This portable release is not code-signed.

First-time setup

• AI: configure your own compatible cloud API or separately installed local model services. Model weights and the PC model-service repositories are not included.
• Gmail: import your own Google Desktop OAuth client configuration. No shared OAuth client or account credentials are embedded. EML import works without Gmail.
• Video export and cloud speech: FFmpeg is optional and is not bundled. Run Install media runtime.cmd with 7-Zip installed, or use its documented -From option with the pinned upstream package. The installer downloads from Gyan and verifies SHA-256 hashes. Local Whisper has its own runtime.
• Workspace data is stored separately from the application folder. Quit UFriend fully before backing up data or replacing application files.
