nocaps 1.4.0

Highlights

  • macOS: Caps Lock no longer toggles. It is remapped to a layer key at the HID level and restored when nocaps is disabled or quits.
  • macOS: layer modifiers now apply to physical keys (Caps Lock + A + C is Ctrl+C), held Shift/Cmd carry onto layered keys, and nocaps runs without a Dock icon.
  • Starts quietly in the tray instead of opening a window.
  • New look: Paper & Ink interface and a new icon.
  • Native builds for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Under the hood

  • Key handling is leaner on every platform: one memory load per lookup, no locks on the hot path, one write per event batch on Linux.
  • Windows: fixed stray auto-repeat and lost key-ups when Caps Lock is released before the layered key.
  • Config saves are atomic.
  • Now MIT licensed.
