The Social Void in League of Legends

LoL is an incredibly sophisticated MOBA game based on a simple structure. The game-play emphasizes both individual skill and tight cooperation, much like the game of basketball. The game does an excellent job of pairing equally skilled players together, which helps level the playing field and keep the game fair. The game also supports a Ranked League structure that divides ranked players into tiers and divisions. This helps maintain parity, but the composition of teams is temporary and based entirely on their performance in ranked competitions. Players want to be grouped for battle based on their rank, but it’s certainly not the only reason to form groups. Players are people, and people are social. It feels good to win an evenly balanced matchup, but doing that alongside new friends can take fun to a whole new level!
