• Repo was renamed from lsb_encoder to steggo. I felt like the name lsb_encoder didn't really suit what the program does since it also does extraction. I renamed it to steggo as a mixture of steg for Steganography and go because it's written in Go... so... steggo

Fall-DK30 Release

This release satisfies most of the work outlined in my DK30 project here.

Includes 2 executables in 'Assets' below:
lsb_encoder for Linux
lsb_encoder.exe for Windows

We can embed a secret message in an image file using LSB insertion and then extract the message back out, with the only exception being the GIF image format (see problems below).

Incomplete (that I am aware of):

• The --stdin flag option has not been fully tested.
• Pre-encoding options for the secret message haven't been fully tested.
• Determining whether a secret message will actually fit inside the source image.
• I have not written any unit-tests.

Problems:

GIF is only able to accurately embed & extract a message that is around 200 characters or less due to limitations of a frame's local color table only allowing 256 colors. This limitation was what ate up a lot of my time, and I wasn't able to find a solution. How can you ensure each alphanumeric character is represented in a 256 color table, in different shades ?

Since GIF's are such large files I was hoping to hide the entire Harry Potter book collection inside one and as of right now I don't see that happening, bummer.
