Hey there,
we are glad you found your way here, to very first alpha release of transcribee-desktop, a piece of software that we spend a lot of time developing and are very excited to share. It's still quite early, but we hope that it can already be useful to you.
Yet, please don't expect that everything works perfectly. This app cannot update automatically yet, so please check regularly if there is a new release. There are some things we know don't work well yet, and we are actively working on improving them. These include: the automatic transcription sometimes producing transcripts with unnescessary linebreaks, speaker identification, copy&paste in the transcript editor, and occasional hiccups on windows.
Install It!
This alpha release is not yet signed. This means that on each platform you need to do a slightly different dance to start transcribee desktop.
MacOS: Download the .dmg file according to your computer (arm or x86) from the list below. Then open the .dmg file and drag the transcribee icon to the Applications folder. When you first launch transcribee, you need to follow this tutorial, because the app is not signed.
Linux: We currently distribute transcribee desktop for linux as an AppImage. To run it, you need to download it, make the file executable and run it. For help, you can consult this guide.
Windows: Download the setup.exe (this is the tricky part). Some browsers will try to nudge you into deleting the file. Don't let them fool you! Then simply run the installer.
Test It!
We are very interested in hearing about your experience and expectations with transcribee desktop. We are happy to read from you via email and are actively looking for people to interview and to cooperate to find out more specifically what our users want. If you are interested in shaping in which direction we develop transcribee, please write us! If you have concrete problems (and a github account at hand), you can of course also open an issue
