fluentcleaner[.]org is NOT an official FluentCleaner website and is not operated, maintained, or endorsed by me.

I strongly recommend not downloading or installing anything from that site.

This isn't hypothetical. MakeUseOf recently recommended FluentCleaner while directing readers to fluentcleaner[.]org instead of the official project. I created an account specifically to warn them in the comments that I am the developer and that the linked site is not mine. That comment was later removed.

That's the part I find especially frustrating: the official repository has a prominent warning about fake FluentCleaner websites. Verifying the source would have taken less time than writing the recommendation.

There is only ONE official source for FluentCleaner:

If another website claims to provide an "official" FluentCleaner download, installer, build, or mirror, it isn't coming from me.

We keep telling users to be careful what they download. That's difficult to take seriously when tech publications don't verify the software sources they recommend.

Credit where credit is due: Deskmodder.de is one of the few tech blogs I've seen actually address this problem and warn readers about increasingly aggressive fake software websites distributing malware.
