Release list
MacVM 0.3.2
MacVM 0.3.2 makes available updates visible in the library footer.
- A small orange Update Available button appears at the bottom right after a
newer release passes the existing version, installer and manifest checks. - Empty libraries show it instead of Ready when you are. Other libraries retain
their machine counter beside the button. - The button opens the existing update window. Installation remains a separate
user action, and running virtual machines still block installation.
Automatic network failures remain silent. No system notification permission is
needed. Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
MacVM 0.3.1
MacVM 0.3.1 centers the library search field in the window toolbar.
- Uses the native macOS search control, with immediate filtering and a clear button.
- Command–F focuses search. Search remains hidden in small or empty libraries;
hiding it clears the previous filter so all remaining machines are visible.
Windows 11 ARM, automatic Ubuntu setup and macOS Guest Tools from 0.3.0 remain
included. Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
MacVM 0.3.0
MacVM 0.3 adds Windows 11 ARM and automatic Ubuntu setup to the native VM manager for Apple silicon.
- Create Windows 11 ARM VMs from a local ISO or Microsoft's download link.
Downloads go to Downloads. Each VM has its own disk, TPM 2.0 identity and
Secure Boot variables. The creation wizard checks installation headroom. - Windows runs in the same MacVM library and native VM window, with normal
shutdown, pause/resume and full-screen entry/exit. QEMU, TPM tools, firmware
and runtime libraries are bundled; users do not need Homebrew. - Windows Tools includes ARM64 display, network and serial drivers, automatic
resolution support, text clipboard and selected shared folders. Install it
inside Windows from Virtual Machine → Install Windows Tools, then restart.
Set Windows display scaling to 200% for Retina. Sound output uses the built-in
Windows High Definition Audio driver. - Clipboard sharing is opt-in and limited to the active VM and host session.
Shared folders start read-only and use a private channel. Open
\\localhost@9843\DavWWWRootin Windows Explorer. - Automatic Ubuntu 26.04 and 24.04 LTS setup offers Server, GNOME and Xfce
profiles, optional development tools and SSH public keys. Passwords are hashed
locally. Setup progress, logs, interrupted-setup retry and completed seed
cleanup are included. Automated macOS and Windows accounts remain deferred. - Guest-specific artwork appears in the library and VM Dock items. The MacVM
application icon remains separate. - Installation Files can remove unused downloads and ejected VM ISO copies
while protecting active installation media and VM disks. - Developer ID app/installer signing, notarization, the Applications DMG and
verified app updates remain part of the release pipeline. Matching Windows
engine/helper source archives and original notices accompany the release.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon. Windows activation requires your
own licence. Windows GPU support is display-only; accelerated 3D, snapshots,
disk resizing and file drag and drop are not included. Current live acceptance
and its limits are recorded in docs/windows-completion-validation.md and
docs/ubuntu-automatic-validation.md.
MacVM 0.2.0
MacVM 0.2 adds installer management, sharing and verified app updates to the native macOS and ARM64 Linux VM manager for Apple silicon.
- macOS downloads go to Downloads, with validated resume after interruption.
- Installation Files lists ISO/IPSW files, partial downloads and their sizes.
Unused installers can move to Trash; files required for installation or in use
are protected. VM disks are preserved. - Per-machine opt-in clipboard sharing and selected shared folders. Folders start
read-only. macOS text sharing uses current Guest Tools; Linux clipboard sharing
requires spice-vdagent. - Imported VM packages start with host sharing disabled until you enable it.
- Manual and automatic update checks, exact publisher and checksum verification,
staged installation, backup, rollback and relaunch confirmation. Active VMs
prevent app replacement. - A designed drag-to-Applications DMG and separately signed Guest Tools installer.
- macOS Guest Tools setup reminders, login-screen shutdown, native full screen,
Retina resolution, pause/resume, and storage locations.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon. Guest Tools desktop and login-screen
shutdown were previously verified on macOS 27.0.1; broader guest-version and
session combinations need separate live validation. This release does not add
Windows, snapshots, disk resizing, or automated guest accounts.
