git hydrate status and git dehydrate judge a hydrated file by its content where git only suspects it. A file copied or linked into place, or hydrated on another machine, read as modified and could not be dehydrated, because git judges a file by its size before its content and the index still held the pointer's stat. Such a file is now hashed, and one that is its object is recorded in the index with its stat, so git reads it as clean from then on.
A rerun of git hydrate export narrowed by --only keeps the files an earlier run hydrated outside the globs instead of replacing them with pointers.
The paths these verbs hand to git are literal, so a tracked path that contains glob characters names itself and nothing else.

The pre-push hook no longer fails when the remote's current tip is an object the repository does not hold, as after a history rewrite has pruned it or on a force push to a remote that moved since the last fetch. It walks from the remote's tracking refs instead, as it already did for a new branch, and checks more objects than it strictly needs to rather than refusing the push with a bad-object error.
