v1.1.5 - Fixes and improvements

Choose a tag to compare

@cacuracaptors cacuracaptors released this 14 Oct 18:49
ecce88b

Changelog:

  • Smoothed HUD and menus: their large pictures are now drawn by the chip's 2D engine at 640x480, and the rest by the CPU with the texture filter (the -hudcpu option keeps it all on the CPU).
  • Menus without stutters: the Trials Data screen and Player Select now run at a steady frame rate.
  • No more sound cuts when the menu screen changes (the menus' pictures are decompressed only once).
  • Dynamic resolution only in the races: the menus, the title and the ceremony are always at full size (sharp letters on the Data screen).
  • Faster rendering in scenes with many layers, like the bridge on "D.K.'s Jungle Parkway".
  • Texture filter on the booster pads' moving arrows.
  • L Option / R Data banners centred on the Game Select screen.
  • "Copy N64 Controller Pak" removed from the Option menu.
  • New cover art.

Known issue: the Game Switcher's save state picture doesn't show the pictures drawn by the 2D engine (the minimap and the menus' large pictures).

To update, replace the game's executable with the one from this zip (or extract the whole zip over your installation).

v1.1.0 - Game Switcher integration + bug fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@cacuracaptors cacuracaptors released this 14 Oct 00:35
a08bc20

Changelog:

  • Save states and Game Switcher: MENU saves the state and opens OnionOS's Game Switcher; resuming from it continues where you left off. Long press and double press follow OnionOS's Tweaks (in-game Menu button), as in RetroArch.
  • Quick save / load: MENU+R2 saves, MENU+L2 loads (as in RetroArch).
  • Turning the device off mid-game saves the state, and OnionOS reopens the game where it was at the next start. Same for the low battery shutdown.
  • Fixed the clipping bug on the Award Ceremony's floor.
  • Fixed some tracks lacking filtering on the ground textures.
  • Low battery: OnionOS's warning icon no longer flickers, and the device now turns itself off at the critical level.
  • Even smoother now: faster rendering with a combination of pre and post-rendered texture filtering.
  • Texture filter on the title screen, the Nintendo logo and the menus.
  • Fixed stutters (sound and gameplay), mirrored reflections, and mirror-mode culling. This fixes the rendering issues on the ice track in "Sherbet Land".
  • Game Select shows the 1P option only.

Launching the game from the game list still starts from the beginning.

To update, replace the game's executable with the one from this zip (or extract the whole zip over your installation).

v1.0.0 - Initial Release

Choose a tag to compare

@cacuracaptors cacuracaptors released this 11 Oct 14:24
911ffe5

First release of Mario Kart 64 for the Miyoo Mini Plus (OnionOS).

  • Native 640x480 at up to 60 FPS in races, with dynamic resolution
  • No overclock
  • Smooth controls: steering ramps up while held
  • Software renderer on both CPU cores, with texture filter on the road
  • Full sound (music and effects)
  • Records, options and ghosts are saved

Installation: extract the zip to the root of your SD card, copy your own Mario Kart 64 (USA)
ROM (.z64, .n64, .v64 or .zip) into Roms/PORTS/Games/MarioKart64/ and start the game.
The first start builds the game data from the ROM (about five minutes, only once) and then
removes the ROM. No game data is included.

Known issues (should be fixed in the next release):

  • Occasionally, the second screen showing your competitors after the race finishes briefly flashes with random rendering artifacts.
  • On the Award Ceremony screen, the floor disappears depending on the camera angle and position.
  • Some tracks are missing filtering on their ground textures.
  • The ice floor in "Sherbet Land" is showing some rendering issues with transparency and reflexes.
  • An OnionOS screenshot (Menu+Power) pauses the game for about a second while it is saved.
  • The game's log is in log.txt, in Roms/PORTS/Games/MarioKart64/ - please attach it to your reports.
