OpenSoegaki v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Sep 18:15

Crop: rotation

  • 90-degree turns from on-canvas buttons; free tilt by dragging the band around the image
  • Magnetic detents every 15 degrees, with a felt wall at +/-45
  • A tick dial on the band, so it reads as a control rather than letterboxing
  • Tilted corners: choose inscribed (never an empty pixel) or circumscribed (full tilted rectangle, corners exported as transparency)
  • The preview frame follows the angle continuously while you drag

Paste a screenshot from the clipboard (iPhone)

  • Paste Screenshot on the welcome screen and the toolbar: Copy and Delete a screenshot, paste it in — it never lands in Photos
  • An iOS Shortcut recipe hands it over straight from the share sheet (see docs/WEB.md)
  • Hidden on browsers without clipboard-image support; Choose Photo works as before

Update notice on startup

  • A small bar names the new version once, with Download opening the releases page — never twice for the same version
  • One request to GitHub's release API; no screenshot, identifier or app version is sent
  • Switch it off in the tray, or with OPENSOEGAKI_UPDATE_CHECK=off
  • Offline, blocked, or switched off: the app starts normally and shows nothing

Toolbar and palette

  • Rebuilt toolbar: one adaptive layout — no more buttons wrapping wherever an iPhone viewport cuts them off
  • Size (S/M/L) and color are now visible at a glance instead of easy to miss
  • Palette: a uniform mid-grey ring on every swatch and a recessed track, so light and dark colors read at the same size; the active swatch takes a white ring and a luminance-aware check mark

Other

  • The drag-to-share tab is anchored to the window's bottom edge, centered, with a dot grip; Copy and Save stay right
  • Tool tooltips no longer advertise single-key shortcuts (A, R, T, H, N, M, V, C) that were never implemented
  • 653 unit, 22 Rust and 95 browser tests green for this release

WARNING!

For MacOS users please read README.md#Download & install — bundles are unsigned and Gatekeeper reports the app as "damaged"; the README has the one-line fix.

OpenSoegaki v0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Aug 03:10

Changes since v0.2.1.

New: Magnifier (loupe) tool

  • A new toolbar tool magnifies part of the picture and shows it enlarged somewhere else on the same picture, so one screenshot carries both the wide view and a readable close-up.
  • To place one, pick the magnifier and press on the spot you want to enlarge, then slide: the source marker follows your finger or cursor while the lens rides alongside showing the live magnified content. Release to place it. A simple tap places one too.
  • A beam is drawn from the source marker to the lens, so it is always obvious which part of the picture the close-up came from.
  • Two lens shapes. Tapping the magnifier button again switches between a round lens and a rectangular one ("cube mode"); the button icon follows. The rectangular lens is meant for magnifying a line or strip of text.
  • Drag the lens to move the close-up without changing what it shows; drag the source marker to change what is magnified without moving the lens. The source can be dragged even when the magnifier is not selected.
  • Resize and zoom: the round lens resizes from its corner handles at a fixed zoom, and the grip on the source rim changes the magnification. The rectangular one resizes from the eight handles around its source, with a zoom grip on the lens corner. The current magnification is shown while the magnifier is selected, and never appears in the exported picture.
  • Lens and source sizes are kept inside a range that stays comfortable to grab with a finger, and the lens cannot grow larger than the picture area allows.
  • The magnifier stores no pixel copy: it samples the picture as it is drawn. Cropping, undo/redo and export all follow along automatically, and the exported PNG shows the magnified content at full resolution.

Fixes

  • Text tool at the right edge (Windows): clicking the text tool near the right edge of the canvas slid the whole image sideways. The canvas now stays put wherever the text box opens.

Windows installer change

  • Windows now ships only the -setup.exe (NSIS) installer; the .msi is no longer built.
  • Reason: the MSI registered its Start Menu shortcut with an icon path inside the Windows Installer cache, which changes on every version — that is what made a taskbar pin show a blank icon. The -setup.exe shortcut points straight at the installed program, so the icon shows correctly and survives upgrades.
  • If you installed a previous version from the .msi: unpin the app from the taskbar, uninstall it from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, install the -setup.exe, then pin it again. See the README for details.

Quality improvements

  • Test coverage grew to 471 unit tests and 44 iPhone-viewport browser tests, most of it covering the new magnifier geometry and gestures.
  • scripts/dev-windows.sh and scripts/build-windows.sh now find the repository themselves instead of relying on a hardcoded path.

OpenSoegaki v0.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Jul 13:57

New: OpenSoegaki Web (iPhone PWA)

  • You can now install OpenSoegaki on iPhone as a web app. Add it to your Home Screen and it opens full-screen, like a normal app.
  • The app works offline after you open it once online. Old cached versions are removed automatically when a new version is released.
  • The web app deploys automatically to GitHub Pages with each release.
  • You can pick a photo, save it with the iOS Share Sheet, and copy it (best effort on iOS).
  • The interface is touch-friendly. Actions that used to need a keyboard now work with touch. Double-tap text to edit it again. The layout adjusts when the iOS keyboard opens.
  • Annotations (lines, text, badges) scale automatically so they stay easy to see on large phone photos.
  • Large photos (12+ megapixels) no longer cause a blank canvas on iOS.
  • The welcome screen was redesigned as a clean empty state. Use "New Document" (Ctrl+N) to return to it at any time.
  • The welcome screen now shows a privacy note, the app version, and a simple hint on how to add the app to your Home Screen.

New editing features

  • Rotate tool: rotate selected shapes (rectangles, images, text, badges) using a drag handle. Hold Shift to snap to 15-degree steps.
  • Fixed badge numbers: a new number bar lets you pick a specific badge number instead of always using auto-numbering.
  • Crop confirm/cancel now always returns you to the select tool correctly.

Quality improvements

  • Added automated browser tests that simulate an iPhone screen, run on every change.
  • Made the welcome screen layout more reliable. If content does not fit on very small screens, you can now scroll to see it, instead of it being cut off.
