@canberkys canberkys released this 28 Sep 15:56

iPScanner 1.3.1

Released 2026-09-28. A focused update for scanning, labels and everyday actions.

Fixed

  • Restore Add Label / Edit Label in the device context menu. Labels survive MAC enrichment and snapshot saves.
  • Keep scan controls and status in place when results are empty, and explain active filters while scanning.
  • Limit ping process duration and avoid ping name resolution to reduce unnecessary waits on unresponsive addresses.
  • Port Scan uses the devices you right-clicked, even when another row is selected.
  • Selecting a saved network replaces previously imported file targets.
  • Snapshot comparisons no longer count previously unresponsive addresses as missing devices; change badges and counts stay current.
  • Show file-save failures and keep the inspector's label field in sync with edits.

Changed

  • A compact installer window with Retina artwork and clear drag-to-Applications instructions.
  • Cleaned up repository artwork and documentation.

Update and compatibility

Use Check for Updates… in iPScanner 1.3.0 to download and install this version.
Users of 1.2.0 must install the DMG manually. Universal Apple Silicon + Intel;
macOS 14.4 deployment target. Developer ID signed and notarized, with an
Ed25519-signed update archive. Existing settings and snapshot formats are retained.

Validation and limitations

201 automated application tests passed, including 11 new regressions. Universal
GUI/CLI builds and packaged Quick, Standard and Deep localhost scans passed.
The new UI still needs a full visual pass and full-subnet performance comparison.
Intel hardware, older macOS runtime coverage and macOS 27 MAC-access limitations
remain as documented. Production 1.3.0 → 1.3.1 in-app installation is not yet
claimed as tested; the owner will perform it after publication.

iPScanner 1.3.0

Released 2026-09-26. Download the DMG, drag iPScanner to Applications and open it.
The application is Developer ID signed and notarized; no quarantine-removal command is needed.

Fixed

  • Prevent the GUI/CLI filename collision that stopped the v1.2.0 app opening (#10).
  • Keep discovery, enrichment, ports and banners in one cancellable scan lifecycle.
Late results cannot replace a newer scan or loaded snapshot; automatic repeats
wait for completion. Imported targets work with an empty range field.
  • Validate complete MAC addresses, keep local/group addresses separate from vendor
matches, clear outdated vendor information and retain old MAC-based labels.
  • Avoid device-type guesses based on a DNS suffix or a generic vendor/web port.
  • Remove vanished Bonjour records and reject stale resolutions after restart.
  • Bound ARP queries and display collection errors and macOS 27 access guidance.

New and changed

  • Compact scanning controls, optional sidebar, adaptive device details and clear
empty-search states. Details explain vendor status and device-type estimates.
  • Native Help and Settings, previewed feedback through Cloudflare to public GitHub
issues, and optional daily Sparkle checks with signed in-app update installation.
  • Refreshed radar app icon and a short product tour.
  • Put AFP, Telnet and database access under Advanced. Explain missing connection
handlers and distinguish Wake-on-LAN packet sending from confirmed device wake.
  • Bundle a compact, build-validated IEEE index. The final build 3 universal app is
11.85 MB of regular files; its compressed DMG is 6.61 MB.

Compatibility

Native SwiftUI, IPv4, macOS deployment target 14.4, Apple Silicon and Intel binary
slices. Sparkle 2.9.6 is the GUI’s update framework; the CLI remains dependency-free. Existing snapshot fields, CSV
columns and CLI arguments remain. vendorStatus is optional JSON/snapshot metadata.

CLI location: iPScanner.app/Contents/Helpers/ipscanner replaces the colliding
Contents/MacOS/ipscanner location. Update scripts that use the old path.

Validation and known limitations

190 application tests and 6 Worker tests pass. Controlled localhost HTTP/SSH,
port/timeout/cancellation checks and packaged CLI profiles pass. See
acceptance-1.3.0.md for methods and pending coverage.

  • macOS 27 can require Network Topology Observation capability/provisioning for MAC
access. Actual MAC collection on this host remains pending signed verification.
  • Intel hardware, macOS 14.4/Sequoia runtime checks, full VoiceOver and the exact
    light/dark window-size matrix remain pending.
  • Registry source retrieval dates were not recorded in the original project;
they are explicitly unknown. Source hashes are pinned in the generated index.
  • The current local app and CLI are Developer ID signed with Hardened Runtime
and secure timestamps. Apple accepted the app and DMG; stapling, image integrity
and local Gatekeeper assessment passed. A local Sparkle installation and invalid-signature rejection passed.
A clean downloaded-DMG first-launch test on Sequoia remains unverified.
  • Users of v1.2.0 must install 1.3.0 manually once; future updates can be installed
    from within the app.

iPScanner v1.2.0

Download the universal .dmg (macOS 14.4+), open it, and drag iPScanner.app into Applications.

First launch (Gatekeeper)

The build is ad-hoc signed (no Apple Developer ID), so macOS Gatekeeper will refuse it on first run. Pick one workaround:

Option A — single command (recommended):

xattr -cr /Applications/iPScanner.app

Strips every quarantine attribute the system added during download. Run once.

Option B — UI route:

  1. Right-click iPScanner.app in Finder → Open → Open.
  2. If macOS Sequoia (15) or Tahoe (26+) still blocks it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway.

Build

Native SwiftUI · macOS 14.4+ · Apple Silicon + Intel universal · ad-hoc signed · zero third-party dependencies.
