Myna 0.2.2
Highlights
- Xubuntu support: Myna Settings sets up IBus and the dictation shortcut through Xfce's own settings, the dictation indicator runs on X11, and Settings follows a dark Xfce theme.
- Setup recognises an installed machine on non-English desktops; it used to reopen onboarding forever (#40, #50).
- Setup recommends and installs the model for your language, and sets Whisper's spoken language to match.
- Whisper on CPU defaults to the base model.
- Holding the dictation shortcut toggles once, and the first dictation after IBus starts finds the text field.
- A missing IBus is reported in Diagnostics and Setup says why it cannot continue; the deb now recommends ibus and im-config.
- A shortcut conflict names the application holding the key, not its command.
Install
On Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or later, install Myna Settings from the PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-desktop-team/myna
sudo apt install myna-config
Myna Settings then sets up the rest: the Dictation app, a speech model and the GNOME Shell extension. They come from the Snap Store's latest/edge channel as myna, myna-parakeet, myna-whisper and myna-funasr.
