ClipCat v0.6.1
0.6.1 – 2026-09-26 ### Fixed - Fix Windows game capture staying attached to background video players by explicitly targeting the foreground game and updating the target when focus changes. - Use consistent game detection for capture targeting and clip folder naming, excluding known video players and browsers. - Fix clip deletion on Windows by normalizing paths for the Windows Shell and releasing the player's media handle before native file actions. - Log Windows recycle failures to help diagnose deletion errors. ### Documentation - Translate project documentation, source comments, and remaining project text to English. - Add a screenshot gallery covering recording, clip browsing and playback, settings, updates, and notifications, with previews linked from the README. ### Tests - Add regression coverage for game selection, capture retargeting, OBS window identifier escaping, Windows recycle paths, and media handle release before file actions.
ClipCat v0.6.0
ClipCat 0.6.0
Updates
- Moved update checks, GitHub release notes, signed downloads, and installation to the shared catninth-updater Rust library.
- Preserved automatic checks every six hours, localized update notifications, and manual installation.
- Kept recording and clip-saving protection, including a final activity check after downloading before reserving installation.
- Preserved capture-engine shutdown and single-instance lock cleanup before installer handoff or restart.
Reliability
- Added regression coverage for update state, semantic version comparison, download progress, and capture/installation races.
- Kept signed Windows NSIS and Linux AppImage, DEB, and RPM packages with the existing signing key.
ClipCat v0.5.0
ClipCat 0.5.0
Added
- Added Hungarian and English (US) translations with a language selector in Settings. The initial language follows the Windows display language, falling back to English for unsupported languages; your saved choice is preserved.
- Added an Info section at the bottom of Settings with update checks, a GitHub link, and a license link.
Changed
- Language changes now update the interface, tray menu, and notifications without restarting ClipCat.
- Replay buffers now account for available memory and disk space. Microphone capture is disabled by default for new configurations, while existing microphone preferences are preserved.
- Manual recordings now use fragmented MP4 to improve recovery after interrupted recording. Finalization errors are reported and partial files are preserved.
Fixes
- Fixed disk replay cleanup during saves, protected segments in use, isolated recording sessions, and added a timeout for stalled saves.
- Fixed capture engine and microphone cleanup, and added software encoding fallback when hardware encoder startup fails.
- Improved settings validation and serialized settings changes; active saves and recordings are protected from conflicting configuration changes and updates.
- Fixed hotkey capture cancellation so shortcuts are restored after focus loss, timeout, or errors.
- Fixed clean CI builds by generating the embedded interface before native tests.
Performance
- Added gallery pagination and bounded thumbnail caching and logging to reduce resource usage.
Security
- Restricted application commands and media access, tightened the content security policy, and removed unsafe legacy cleanup behavior.
- Added capture bundle integrity checks and ZIP extraction validation, and backported a GLib memory safety fix.
Regression coverage and audit findings are documented in audit-verification.md.

ClipCat v0.4.1
ClipCat 0.4.1
Fixes
- Hotkeys now work while games are focused in borderless mode.
- Added fallback hotkey detection for games that suppress Windows global hotkey events.
- Prevented duplicate clip saves and other repeated hotkey actions.
ClipCat v0.4.0
Added
- ClipCat now immediately displays a notification when saving a replay clip starts, including the destination folder.
- Stopping a manual recording now displays a notification while the recording is being saved.
- A new blue, pulsing status indicator shows when a save is in progress.
Changed
- In-progress save notifications no longer play a sound; sounds are reserved for the final save result.
- Empty notification details no longer take up unnecessary space.
ClipCat v0.3.1
Added
- Added an optional disk-backed replay buffer.
- Added bitrate recommendations based on frame rate, resolution, and codec.
- Added estimated disk-write usage and SSD endurance warnings when using the disk-backed buffer.
Changed
- Rebuilt the user interface with React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Vite.
- Maximum bitrate now depends on frame rate: 80 Mbps at 30 FPS, 100 Mbps at 60 FPS, 130 Mbps at 120 FPS, and 150 Mbps at 144 FPS. Existing values above the applicable limit are clamped automatically.
- Changed the default bitrate from 40 Mbps to 30 Mbps.
- Disabled the default context menu.
- The player now closes when the application window is hidden.
Performance
- Gallery previews now use still-image thumbnails cached in IndexedDB, limiting concurrent video decoding and reducing resource usage.
