@ryankucingg ryankucingg released this 26 Oct 16:07

Curiosity won't kill this cat. The first public release of DBCatz — free and open source under GPL-3.0.

  • Databases — MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Redis, Valkey, MongoDB and Elasticsearch, a tab per connection.
  • Connect — by hand, over SSH, with AWS IAM or Vault, or paste a URL (a whole DATABASE_URL= line works too). Passwords stay in the macOS Keychain.
  • Browse and edit — data grid with filters, structure, indexes, export and import, a query editor with history.
  • Production safety — Production and Read-only modes per connection, typed confirmations for risky statements.
  • AI, optional — ask in plain words; only structure is sent, never your rows unless you allow samples.
  • The family — the databases DevCatz runs show up by themselves; DialCatz opens the table a request touched.

Updated build (27 October)

  • Ask DBCatz… (⌘K) with AI off now opens Settings → AI instead of doing nothing.
  • Shortcut labels and system words now come from one place, ready for the Windows build — nothing else changes on your Mac.
  • The repository now has contributing, support and security guides, issue forms and a CLA check.
  • Install DevCatz and Open in DevCatz pick the build for your computer (Apple silicon, Intel or Windows), and the update size shown is the one for your Mac's chip.

Updated build (28 October)

  • JSON cells get a { } button: the value opens indented and coloured like a code editor, with line numbers, Find (⌘F) and Copy; double-click still edits the cell.
  • JSON cells can now be edited in that same pretty form: Edit opens the value coloured and numbered, with Find & Replace and the JSON checked as you type; Save writes it like any cell edit (Production connections still ask first).

Same version number — if you already run 1.0.0 there is nothing you need to do.

Install: download below, from catzoid.com/dbcatz/download, or with Homebrew: brew tap catzoidhub/catz && brew trust catzoidhub/catz && brew install --cask dbcatz.

Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 13 or later; signed and notarized by Apple, and the app updates itself. Windows is on the way.
