SwitchWakerHD 0.4.2
SwitchWakerHD runs The Wind Waker HD (Wii U, version 0: USA 00050000-10143500 or Europe 00050000-10143600) natively on a Switch with custom firmware: the game's code is statically recompiled to C and drawn with deko3d. No emulation.
No game inside, no binaries. Every build carries the game's code recompiled from your own dump, so you build it on your computer with one script and copy the result to your SD card. Do not share what you build.
Install
- Download
SwitchWakerHD-v0.4.2.zipbelow and unzip it. - Follow INSTALL.md: one command builds everything from your dump:
python3 tools/switch/make_sd.py --image game.wux # or --wua game.wua, or --game-dir <extracted game> - Copy
build/sd/to the root of the SD card and start the Homebrew Menu in title mode (hold R while starting any game).
Updating from 0.4.1: build the same way and copy wwhd.nro over the old one. Saves, settings.ini and the graphics already compiled on the console stay.
What's fixed since v0.4.1
Black shadows on a first start (reported by many players)
- On a console with no compiled graphics yet (a new install), every shadow could stay black for the whole session: Outset, houses, everywhere. Re-entering a place did not help; closing and starting the game again did.
- The cause: before the title screen the game draws, once, a texture the shadows use all session. Its graphics were still compiling, so that one draw was skipped. Now the start-up draws wait for their graphics: about one second more on the logos and the title screen, only on the very first start. Nothing changes during play.
- Tested on hardware from an empty cache: shadows right in Outset and Orca's house from the first start.
Clearer start-up errors
- If the game's files are missing or incomplete on the SD card (
code/cking.rpx,content/,meta/meta.xmlin/switch/wwhd/game/), the game now shows a screen saying which one is missing, instead of a generic error.
Also
- The release check refuses shader caches and compiled shaders (they are made from the game), and the guest-mod translator works again (desktop tooling).
Known limits
- The first visit to a place compiles its graphics in the background: an object may appear a moment late, once per console.
- The sun's corona and lens flare are not drawn yet (the renderer does not read depth back).
