v3.9.2
What a deletion takes that nothing showed
A file is one line in the folder and its earlier versions are none, so
deleting it for good read as one thing going when it could be ten — and
versions are the half that no trash and no restore brings back.
The confirmation now says so before the button is pressed: how many earlier
versions are about to go and how much they hold. Only for what is not coming
back — a file going to the trash keeps its history and gets it back when it
is restored, and a warning that does not apply is worse than none. A folder
counts what every file under it would take with it.
The activity log says it too, on a line of its own beside the deletion
(Versions deleted), because one line saying a file went is not an account
of ten copies of it going. Versions deleted from the panel, and by an
administrator from Settings → File versions, are recorded the same way —
until now the first wrote nothing at all, so the log answered "nobody" to the
only question it is asked about a history that is no longer there.
A deletion that was written down as something else
With the trash switched off, every file deleted was recorded in the activity
log as having been moved to a trash that does not exist. Reported from an
installation running with it off.
The line was the only thing wrong. The deletion reads the settings on the
server, so the file did go for good; it is the account of it that disagreed.
That account was written from the permanent flag the request carried, and
the flag answers a different question. The interface sends it to pick, item by
item, what the trash will not take. With no trash there is nothing to pick, so
it sends nothing — and "nothing" was read as "into the trash".
The service already answers for each item, trashed or deleted, and that is
the only account that cannot disagree with what happened. The line is written
from there now, one per outcome, so a selection partly kept and partly removed
says both instead of repeating the first.
Two more went with it. An entry that was already gone was counted among the
deleted, and so was one the trash refused for its size and left exactly where
it was. Neither writes anything now, and the name on the line belongs to
something that actually went.
Present in v3.9.0 and v3.9.1. Nothing was lost or misplaced by it — only
misreported.
