A keyboard-first, local-first Finder replacement for macOS.

New in 0.1.2

  • True Cut (⌘X) — cut files dim in place, then paste moves them.
  • Per-folder views — every folder remembers its own view mode and sort order.
  • Multi-pane — open several folders side by side in 3-up or 2×2 layouts, each with its own view.
  • Transfer queue — live ETA and throughput for copies and moves.
  • Dozens of stability and interaction fixes from recursive off-screen testing.
  • Refreshed website with many more Rascal Light screencaps.

Install

  1. Download the build for your Mac:

    • Apple Silicon (M1–M4): Rascal-arm64.dmg
    • Intel: Rascal-x86_64.dmg
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Rascal into Applications.

  3. First launch: right-click Rascal.appOpen (the app is self-signed). If macOS says it's "damaged," clear the quarantine flag:

    xattr -cr /Applications/Rascal.app
