MP4tools+ 1.0

A native macOS app for fast, mostly-lossless video processing (MKV/MP4/WEBM/AVI → MP4), built on FFmpeg. Signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens with no security warnings. Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon.

Which download should I get?

Two editions are attached below — the only difference is what the in-app preview window can play back. Conversion, splitting, joining, extracting and aspect-ratio adjustment are identical in both.

MP4toolsPlus-1.0-vlc.dmg — VLC edition MP4, MKV, AVI, WEBM and more (bundles VLCKit) large (~150–250 MB)
  • Choose Standard if you mostly work with MP4/MOV, or want the smallest download.
  • Choose VLC if you want to preview MKV/AVI/WEBM files before converting them.

Either way the converted output is the same — you don't need the VLC edition just to convert MKV/AVI/WEBM.

Install

  1. Download one of the .dmg files below.
  2. Open it and drag MP4toolsPlus to your Applications folder.
  3. Launch it. ffmpeg is bundled — nothing else to install.

Licensing

ffmpeg is bundled and used under the LGPLv2.1/GPLv2. The VLC edition additionally bundles VLCKit/libVLC under the LGPLv2.1. See THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md in the repository.
