MP4tools+ 1.0.1

A native macOS app for fast, mostly-lossless video processing (MKV/MP4/WEBM/AVI → MP4), built on FFmpeg. Signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon.

New in 1.0.1

  • Name audio & subtitle tracks — give any audio or subtitle track a custom name that's written into the output (so players show "English", "Director Commentary", etc.).
  • Multiple external subtitles — attach several .srt/.ass/.ssa/.vtt files at once; each appears in the Subtitles list with its own include toggle and editable name.
  • Stability: fixed a release-build crash when dropping a file into the preview.

Which download should I get?

Two editions are attached — the only difference is what the in-app preview window can play back. Conversion, splitting, joining, extracting and aspect-ratio adjustment are identical in both.

Pick Standard for the smallest download; pick VLC if you want to preview MKV/AVI/WEBM before converting. You don't need the VLC edition just to convert those formats.

Install

  1. Download one of the .dmg files below.
  2. Open it and drag MP4toolsPlus to your Applications folder.
  3. Launch it. ffmpeg is bundled — nothing else to install.

Licensing

ffmpeg is bundled under the LGPLv2.1/GPLv2. The VLC edition additionally bundles VLCKit/libVLC under the LGPLv2.1. See THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md.
