Super Mario Sunshine PC port as Nintendo Switch homebrew, drawing through deko3d, the Switch's own GPU API. No game data is included: it plays your own disc image.

Install: extract sms-switch-deko3d.zip to the root of the SD card. It holds:

  • switch/sms/sms.nro;
  • switch/sms/dkgl-programs.pack, every known shader compiled ahead of time, so nothing compiles while you play;
  • switch/sms/env.txt, containing SMS_SWITCH_RENDERER=deko3d. If you already have an env.txt, add that line to yours instead of replacing it.

Put your GMSE01 (North America, Rev 0) .iso, .gcm or .ciso in sdmc:/switch/sms/. Start the game from the homebrew menu through title takeover (hold R while starting a game), not the album applet. At startup the lower-left corner shows the build, sms-switch v0.4.1.

What's new since v0.4.0

  • Handheld boost, on by default: in handheld the GPU and memory run at the docked rates (GPU 768 MHz, memory 1600 MHz).
    • These are Nintendo's own clock rates, not an overclock, and the CPU stays at its default.
    • Delfino Plaza at 2x in handheld went from about 27 fps to 60.
    • R3 + D-pad Up (hold the right stick in) switches it off or on, and the corner shows the clocks. The choice is kept in clocks.txt. SMS_SWITCH_HANDHELD_BOOST=0 in env.txt starts with it off.
    • It uses more battery. Docked it changes nothing.
  • New controls:
    • R is a soft spray (R pressed part of the way: Mario keeps walking).
    • ZR is the full spray.
    • − opens the map (the GameCube's Z).
    • ZL is L, as before.
    • The button prompts show the new buttons. bindings.txt can still change any of it.

Controls at a glance: A B X Y, + Start, − map, ZL L, R soft spray, ZR full spray. L3 + D-pad Right cycles the graphics presets (1x, 2x, plus HD textures if you have a pack). L3 + D-pad Left switches 30/60 fps. L3 + R3 shows the performance overlay. R3 + D-pad Up toggles the handheld boost.

Bug reports: attach sms.log from beside the NRO, and after a crash also the newest file in sdmc:/atmosphere/crash_reports/.

Super Mario Eclipse (sms-eclipse.nro) and the renderer self-test (gx_selftest.nro) are added to this release by CI. They are Mesa OpenGL builds.
