Extract Coordinates from a PDF — new

  • Drag a box over coordinate text on a PDF sheet — a monument block, a point table, or a bare
northing/easting — and GoSurvey reads it for you.
  • Review what it read next to the source text and accept or deny each one, or accept or deny them
all at once, before anything is created.
  • An accepted point becomes a survey point (auto-numbered, or matched to a conflicting number
through the usual overwrite/offset prompt) or a circle when there is no description or
elevation. Accepting brings you straight to the drawing.
  • A region with no selectable text — a scanned page — says so plainly instead of pretending to
    find something.

Paste and drawing exchange

  • Paste between projects now offers to convert the pasted content to the destination's
    coordinate system and units.
  • Paper space content (viewports and sheet geometry) now survives DXF export and a DWG round
    trip.

Plant 3D / DWG

  • More Plant 3D piping solids import correctly, verified against AutoCAD's own geometry.
  • Plant fittings are written back out on save; DWG save now defaults to AutoCAD 2018.

Fixes

  • Deleting a paper layout no longer leaves the drawing pointing at stale state.
  • Several ribbon wiring gaps on paper-space tools fixed.
  • MOVE/COPY/ROTATE/MIRROR on paper-space points, and a real paper-space SCALE.

Installation and startup

  • The installer now includes the Visual C++ runtime GoSurvey needs, so it starts on a fresh PC without extra downloads.
  • If GoSurvey cannot start, a startup problem dialog explains what went wrong, and Send This Report opens a pre-filled support issue.

Updates

  • The Software Update dialog now uses the same illustrated look as What's New.

Projects — start here

  • Organize a job as a project: one folder, one shared survey point database, and every
drawing tab that belongs to the job.
  • Recent Projects on the start screen; open several projects at once when you need to.
  • Add drawing to project with a preview; align units and coordinate system when a drawing
    comes from outside the project.
  • Track DWG, PDF, and point cloud files; pack project into a single archive to email or archive.
  • Project settings enforce zone and units; per-drawing overrides where you need them.
  • Turnover records and warnings when files are missing, out of date, or edited elsewhere.

Coordinate systems and maps

  • Work in named coordinate systems (state plane and other zones) with project-wide enforcement.
  • Show USGS aerial imagery as an online map under your linework.
  • Capture a map extent into the drawing so the background stays with the file offline.
  • Geographic marker and geodata travel through save, reopen, and DWG exchange where supported.

Built-in PDF viewer

  • Open PDFs with PDFVIEW or from the project file list — no external viewer required.
  • Dedicated PDF window with zoom, pan, and fast page rendering.
  • Mark up sheets; measure length, area, and angle; set drawing scale on the PDF.
  • Compare two revisions side by side and see what changed.
  • Split a PDF into pages; add PDFs to a project file list without placing them on a layout.

Point clouds

  • Attach point cloud scans (including E57); control display density and color.
  • Clip and style clouds; use them with surfaces and linework in the same drawing.
  • Project file tracking includes cloud paths when you pack a job.

Piping and fittings

  • Route pipe runs with size, elevation, and fitting-aware geometry.
  • Place standard fittings from the built-in library (for example flanges).
  • Snap to pipe run ends; move and copy runs like other model objects.
  • Export pipe geometry in DWG with the rest of the drawing.

Surfaces, grading, and 3D

  • Build and edit TIN surfaces; volumes, contours, and surface styles.
  • DRAPE linework onto a surface; linked geometry can follow surface rebuilds.
  • GRADING side slopes from a feature line to a daylight line on existing ground.
  • PADSOLID models cut and fill for building pads.
  • 3D solids, meshes, sections, and improved DWG import/export for civil and piping models.

Drawing, exchange, and polish

  • Dynamic blocks, fields, materials, and visual styles in DWG round trip (where supported).
  • Multileaders, improved dimensions, box selection preview, and object-layer rules.
  • Press F1 for the updated in-app manual and command reference.

@github-actions github-actions released this 11 Sep 19:07

3D solids — new

  • Draw and edit 3D solids — boxes, cylinders, spheres, cones, tori, wedges, pyramids, and
polysolids — with FILLET, CHAMFER, SECTION, and SOLIDCHECK.
  • Rotate and scale a solid about any axis; move a vertex or edge with grips and the
    gizmo.
  • UCS Object aligns the working plane to a flat face on a solid.
  • Import standalone ACIS .sat files as solid blocks.

Precision and coordinates

  • Survey coordinates and drawing geometry are stored at full double precision (±0.002 ft),
so state-plane work and large-coordinate imports stay exact through save and reopen.

Modify commands in 3D

  • MOVE, COPY, ROTATE, SCALE, MIRROR, STRETCH, OFFSET, and ARRAY
honour the active UCS and work in 3D model space.
  • TRIM drawn-line mode resolves cuts in true 3D.
  • EXPLODE breaks a polyline into its individual segments.

Snapping and inquiry

  • Quadrant object snap for circles and arcs.
  • DIST reports horizontal distance and grade between two picks.

Help and interface

  • Press F1 (or type HELP) for the full in-app user manual with command reference.
  • Refreshed start screen, splash, and What's New billboard; blue theme across dialogs
    and the viewport chrome.
  • Multi Selection disambiguates overlapping picks at the cursor.
  • Improved ribbon layout and a clearer launch flow with update check on startup.

Drawing exchange

  • Save As no longer crashes or drops you off the drawing tab.
  • DWG import skips Civil 3D parts-catalog solids that cannot be represented, keeping the rest
    of the drawing.

GoSurvey 0.5.6

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Aug 23:51

A tabbed ribbon

  • The toolbar is now organised into tabs — Home, Insert, Annotate, View, Manage, Output, Survey —
and rearranges itself to fit the window when you make it narrower.
  • Where a command has options, the option words in the prompt are now clickable instead of
    needing to be typed.
  • The cursor's input box grows and shrinks to fit what you are typing.

Drawing

  • ARRAY — copy an object into a rectangular grid or a polar ring.
  • POLYLINE now closes when you click its start point, and finishes when you press Enter.
  • Object selection is its own visible mode, so it is clear when the program is waiting for you
    to pick things.

Dimensions

  • A single place to set dimension appearance, edited through the new DIMSTY dialog.
  • Angular dimensions (DIMANGULAR) place and measure correctly.

Snapping and zoom

  • Snapping picks the nearest candidate more reliably, and Shift + right-click locks a snap.
  • Double-tap the middle mouse button to zoom to extents.
  • ZOOM EXTENTS no longer misframes; inside an activated viewport it frames that viewport
    rather than the whole sheet.

Paper space

  • MOVE, COPY and DELETE on a sheet now ask you to select objects first.
  • Circles, arcs, ellipses and polylines drawn on a sheet stay on that sheet.

DXF

  • Arcs and ellipses survive a save-and-reopen through DXF unchanged.
  • Exported DXF files use unique handles and declare every layer they reference.
  • Arc angles and the saved view no longer drift on export.

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Aug 15:27

FILLET and CHAMFER — new

  • FILLET rounds a corner between two lines, arcs, or polyline segments with a tangent arc,
trimming or extending each one to meet it. Pick two objects; type R first to set the radius,
    T to toggle Trim/No trim.
  • CHAMFER connects two lines or polyline segments with a straight bevel instead of a curve.
Type D to set two distances, or A for a distance and an angle.
  • A radius or distance the picked objects can't actually support is refused with a clear message,
    instead of drawing something wrong.
  • Both remember your last-used radius, distances, and Trim/No-trim setting the next time you use
them, and work the same way in paper space as in model space.

GoSurvey 0.5.4

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Aug 14:05

Contours you can keep — new

  • EXTRACT turns a surface's contours into ordinary polylines. Type EXTRACT <surface>, or
EXTRACT <surface>, <layer> to put them on a layer of your choosing — the layer is created if it
    does not exist yet.
  • You get exactly the contours you can see: the minor and major intervals set in the surface's
style. If one of the two is switched off it is not extracted, and GoSurvey says which one it
skipped rather than leaving you to count.
  • The result is ordinary drawing geometry, not linked to the surface. Rebuilding the surface,
restyling it, or erasing it altogether leaves the polylines exactly as they are — so you can edit
them, label them, and send them out.
  • It reports how many contours it made, at which interval, and on which layer. One undo removes the
    whole lot.
  • A surface that has never been built, or whose style is showing no contours, creates nothing and
tells you why instead of quietly doing nothing.

Also new since you last looked

These arrived in 0.5.3, but its notes never described them.

Surfaces

  • Surfaces on the Survey ribbon opens the surface list: every surface in the drawing with its
point count, triangle count and elevation range, and whether it is out of date or rebuilding right
now. Create, rename, delete, rebuild and restyle from the same place.
  • Breaklines. Designate an existing line or polyline as a breakline (DBL) and no triangle will
cross it — ridges, toes and swales hold their shape instead of being triangulated through.
  • Boundaries. Designate a closed polyline as an outer boundary to clip the surface to it, a
hide boundary to punch a void, or a show boundary to bring surface back inside a void
(DBD). They apply in the order you add them.
  • Surfaces keep themselves up to date. Move or delete a point the surface is built from, or edit
a breakline, and it retriangulates on its own — there is nothing to press. The work happens in the
background, so your edit finishes straight away and the surface is marked out of date until the
    new one lands.
  • Surface styles (SURFSTYLE, or SS) — a named, reusable style controlling minor and major
contour interval, each with its own colour, linetype and lineweight, plus triangles, border and
points. Editing a style changes every surface using it, and changing how a surface looks never
    re-triangulates it.
  • Build a surface straight from a point file. Link a .csv or .txt into a surface and its
points feed the triangulation without becoming drawing points — so a large point delivery does
not have to land in your drawing first. Edit the file and the surface follows it. You can import
it into the drawing later, which creates the points and a point group and breaks the link. A file
that has gone missing is named, and the surface keeps its last good shape rather than quietly
    shrinking.

Grading

  • Feature lines — a new kind of object. Named 3D linework carrying an elevation at every point.
Draw one with FEATURELINE (FL): click for position, then type the elevation for each point. It
selects, moves, copies, rotates, scales and erases like any other object, and it can be added to a
surface as a breakline, after which the surface follows it.
  • Feature line elevations (FLELEVEDIT) — a table showing, for every point, its station,
elevation, length to the next point, grade back and grade ahead. Type an elevation and the
neighbouring grades update; type a grade ahead and the next point's elevation moves instead. Raise
or lower the whole line by an amount. Elevation points let you set a grade break without
    adding a bend in plan.
  • Feature lines are still new: TRIM, OFFSET, JOIN and copy-to-clipboard turn them down for now, and
say so rather than doing something surprising.
  • 3DPOLY draws a polyline whose vertices each carry their own elevation, typed or taken from
a snap, instead of every vertex landing flat on the current ELEV plane. This is what a breakline
drawn by hand should be drawn with — an ordinary POLYLINE drawn free-hand put the whole line at
elevation 0 and tore the surface down along its length.

Fixes worth knowing about

  • Deleting a circle no longer damages every other circle in the drawing. It used to shift them
all, so each one took the previous circle's radius as its centre — three circles became one, in
the wrong place — with no warning, and saving wrote the damage to the file.
  • Polylines survive DXF. A polyline sent out to DXF came back as a heap of unrelated lines, and
so did every polyline in a DXF from Civil 3D — parcel boundaries, breaklines and alignments
arrived already broken apart. They now arrive as polylines.
  • A DXF now records the drawing extents in the same coordinates as the objects, so the file no
longer changes depending on where the drawing origin sits, and a state-plane DXF that GoSurvey
wrote re-opens in the right place.
  • Ctrl+S saves. The File menu had advertised the shortcut all along, but nothing was listening
    for it.
  • A drawing opened by double-clicking a .gs now knows its own file, so the first save no longer
asks where to put a drawing you just opened.
  • Survey point labels stay clear of their points. A long description used to grow the label
westward across the point marker it was labelling; the label now grows east, away from it.
  • A point label no longer wraps its last word onto a second line at some zoom levels and back again
at others, without the text having changed.
  • A label given its own typeface is now measured in that typeface, so the text stays inside its box
and clicking the text actually selects it.
  • A drawing containing a feature line and nothing else now draws it.

Right-click now does what you tell it to

  • Settings → User Preferences → Right-click Customization… opens a dialog where you set what
right-click means in each situation: with nothing selected, with objects selected, and part-way
through a command. Each one is either "repeat the last command" or "open the shortcut menu".
  • These choices already existed, but were buried in three unlabelled drop-downs. They are now
spelled out, and Cancel puts everything back the way it was when you opened the dialog.
  • New: time-sensitive right-click. Turn it on and a quick right-click acts as ENTER, while
holding the button a moment longer opens the shortcut menu — so you can finish a command and
reach the menu with the same button. You set how long "a moment" is, in milliseconds.
  • It is switched off to begin with, so right-click keeps behaving exactly as it does today
until you decide otherwise. With it on, the "no selection" and "during a command" choices grey
out, because the length of the click is deciding those instead.

A fuller right-click menu in the drawing

  • Recent Input lists what you last typed at the command line, newest first. Pick one to run it
    again.
  • Isolate Objects — see below.
  • Clipboard for cut, copy and paste, and Basic Modify Tools for move, copy, rotate, scale,
erase, offset, trim and join, without going back to the ribbon.
  • Pan, Zoom and Free Orbit, plus Quick Select and Options.

Isolate Objects — new

  • Select what you are working on and choose Isolate Objects: everything else disappears until
you choose End Object Isolation. Hide Objects does the opposite and hides just what you
    picked.
  • Hidden objects cannot be picked while they are hidden — a window drag across where they used to
be will not quietly pull them into your selection.
  • Nothing is deleted, and nothing is saved: a drawing always opens showing everything.

Free Orbit

  • Orbiting the model is now a command as well as a shortcut. Choose Free Orbit from the
right-click menu (or type ORBIT) and drag with the left mouse button; Esc, Enter or a right-click
ends it. Shift and the middle mouse button still orbit as before.

Point files can be .txt as well as .csv

  • Import points and Export points now accept both. A points file that came off your data collector
named .txt shows up in the file browser straight away, instead of only appearing once you
switch the file type to "All files".
  • The two are the same thing to GoSurvey. The file still has to be comma-separated, and the column
order you choose still decides how it is read.
  • When exporting, a name you type ending in .csv or .txt is saved exactly as you typed it. A
name with no ending gets the one you picked in the file type list.
  • A .txt whose columns are separated by spaces or tabs is not read. It lists the rows it
could not understand and adds nothing to the drawing, rather than guessing where the columns
are — save it comma-separated and import it again.

GoSurvey 0.5.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Aug 04:14

0.5.1

Fixes worth knowing about

  • Loading a points file from the survey points table no longer closes GoSurvey. It used to shut
the program down without warning, losing anything unsaved in the drawing.
  • The Groups button on the Survey toolbar now appears. It was missing, so point groups could
only be opened by typing the command.

A new look

  • The dark theme has been rebuilt. Panels and dialogs now sit clearly in front of the drawing
instead of blending into it, and boxed areas inside a window read as their own panel.
  • The light theme is unchanged, and switching between them under Settings → Display still works
    as before.

Points and layers tables

  • Both tables now behave like a spreadsheet: click a column heading to sort by it, drag to resize
or reorder columns, and the heading row stays put while you scroll.
  • Rows are the height of one line, so many more points fit on screen at once.
  • Sorting only changes what you see. It never reorders the points in your drawing or in a saved
file, and editing or deleting a row always acts on the row you are looking at.
  • Coordinate rows in Properties now carry a coloured X, Y or Z marker.

Anonymous usage reporting — new in this release

  • GoSurvey now reports anonymous usage, so development can be aimed at what people actually run
rather than at guesses. This exists only to guide work on the program.
  • What it sends: a random ID that identifies this installation and nothing else, the version you
are running, whether you are on stable or beta, and that you are on Windows. It sends this once
when installed, and at most once a day after that.
  • What it never sends: your name, email, company, computer name, file names, drawings, survey
data, or location. The random ID is not built from anything about you or your machine, and it
cannot be traced back to either.
  • Nothing you draw or measure ever leaves your computer.
  • You can read all of this inside the program, under Settings → System → Anonymous Usage Data.

Surfaces

  • New Elev/Grade tool: pick a point to read its elevation on the surface, pick a second to get
the grade, slope and distance between them.
  • Where two surfaces overlap — existing and proposed — you get a named line for each, so you can
    read both without switching anything.
  • A pick outside the surface says so instead of inventing a number.

Fixes

  • Offsetting an object no longer produces a copy that shares the original's identity, which could
make later edits act on the wrong object.
  • On laptops with two graphics cards, GoSurvey now asks for the faster one instead of taking
    whichever Windows offered.
