Pathadder is a simple script that adds tools to your system $PATH in Linux. It has no requirements, aside from basic system utilites, that are...

  • cp
  • rm
  • chmod
  • grep
  • whereis
  • awk

Usage

Pathadder, a simple script to add tools to your system path
------------------------------------------------------------
Usage: pathadder <path to file> <options> <sudo option>
Options:
--info - Run in place of <path to file>, prints relevant project info.
--bin - Add the tool to /usr/bin/
--local - Add the tool to /usr/local/bin/
--sudo - Lock the tool with permissions, so it must be excuted as sudo, irrelevant where it is placed.
--sbin - Add the tool to /usr/sbin/
--remove <tool name> - Search aforementioned locations and remove the tool, run --remove in place of <path to file>, AND <tool name> in place of option.
Tools are by default placed in /usr/bin/
You can combine options, appending --sudo after a chosen directory, or just used alone.

Installation

Note: These commands are run from the terminal.

  • Download: wget https://github.com/chiefbigrubberduck/Linux-Utils/raw/main/pathadder
  • Make executable: sudo chmod +x pathadder
  • Optional: Add to path (ironically, with pathadder ;-)) sudo ./pathadder pathadder --bin
This will add pathadder to /usr/bin, use another option at the end, to change location. Use usage above.

Use

Just run pathadder, or, if not in $PATH, cd into the directory that has pathadder, and run ./pathadder
