PaperBoat for Android 1.1.0-airx.1

Adds a native button mapping screen to this Android fork of HarbourMasters/PaperBoat. See the README for everything else.

No game data is included. You need your own Paper Mario (USA) ROM, SHA-1 3837f44cda784b466c9a2d99df70d77c322b97a0.

New

• Settings → Controls → Button mapping: pick an N64 button, then press the handheld button you want for it. Works with face buttons, shoulders, triggers, the D-pad and the right stick.
• A button that's already in use swaps over, so nothing ends up doubled. Reset all buttons to defaults undoes everything.
• Back can't be assigned. It stays reserved for the pause menu (press it twice in game).
• Bindings are saved in the same format as the game's own controller editor, so both stay in sync.

Install

• Updating from 1.0.1-airx.1: install this APK over it. Your saves and settings are kept.
• Any other Paperboat build (upstream CI, or one you built yourself): uninstall it first. That deletes your saves, so back up Android/data/dev.net64.paperboat/files/saves/ first (or use Saves → Back up all).

Requires a 64-bit ARM (arm64-v8a) device on Android 7 or newer. Tested on a Mangmi Air X (Android 14, Snapdragon 662).

PaperBoat for Android 1.0.1-airx.1

First Android release of this fork: HarbourMasters/PaperBoat 1.0.1 with the fixes and menus described in the README.

No game data is included. You need your own Paper Mario (USA) ROM, SHA-1 3837f44cda784b466c9a2d99df70d77c322b97a0.

What's in it

• Fixes the crash on first launch, settings never saving, and garbled/black graphics on Adreno GPUs.
• A main menu (Play, Settings, Mods, Saves) and native settings, usable with a controller or by touch.
• Press Back twice in game for a pause menu: Resume, Settings, Quit to main menu.

Install

1. Download Paperboat-1.0.1-airx.1-arm64.apk below and open it on the device (allow installing from unknown sources), or adb install Paperboat-1.0.1-airx.1-arm64.apk.
2. Open Paperboat, pick your ROM, and wait about a minute while it extracts the game assets (once only).

Requires a 64-bit ARM (arm64-v8a) device on Android 7 or newer. Tested on a Mangmi Air X (Android 14, Snapdragon 662).

Already have a Paperboat build installed?

Builds signed with a different key (upstream CI artifacts, or ones you built yourself) can't be updated in place; uninstall them first. Uninstalling deletes your saves, so copy Android/data/dev.net64.paperboat/files/saves/ somewhere safe first (or use Saves → Back up all), and restore it afterwards. Future releases from this fork will update over this one.
