KartPad v0.3.0-preview.4
Pre-releaseKartPad v0.3.0-preview.4
Preview 4 adds experimental custom Mii management and experimental direct Wii
Remote/Nunchuk support on macOS. It also includes the accepted three-dot-menu
lifecycle repair and clearer fallback handling for game images stored in the
KartPad Files folder.
Experimental Mii import and management
- Game Data & Saves → Manage Miis… lists the current Mii database on Mac,
iPhone, and iPad. - Import accepts a standard 74-byte
.miifile. Removal keeps at least one Mii. - Changes are staged, the active database is backed up, and the replacement is
applied atomically on the next KartPad launch. - After restarting, select the imported Mii through Mario Kart Wii's License
Settings → Change Mii screen. - KartPad cannot create a Mii because it does not include the Wii Menu or Mii
Channel.
This path passes database-format, CRC, duplicate, capacity, staging, backup,
and integration tests. A real exported Mii still needs reporter confirmation
for in-game name and appearance.
Experimental Wii Remote and Nunchuk on macOS
- Controls → Experimental Wii Remote + Nunchuk enables direct Bluetooth
pairing without a DolphinBar. - The pairing flow recognizes original
RVL-CNT-01and Wii Remote Plus
RVL-CNT-01-TRhardware, confirms the physical HID connection, and hands the
controller to SDL. - Controller Settings includes a Wii Remote + Nunchuk (Experimental)
preset for Mario Kart Wii input. - Closing the pairing window cancels discovery and restores normal SDL input
state.
The direct pairing path is macOS-only and uses private Bluetooth interfaces.
It is intended for direct community testing, not Mac App Store distribution.
Actual pairing, Nunchuk input, disconnect/reconnect, and long-session behavior
remain open until tested with physical Wii hardware. The iPhone/iPad menu entry
explains that platform boundary and does not claim direct iOS pairing.
Menu and import improvements
- The three-dot button keeps its circular appearance and ellipsis through menu
dismissal, background/foreground transitions, and mode changes. - Controls and Display are grouped into clearer submenus while Multiplayer,
FPS, Game Data & Saves, and Report a Problem remain easy to reach. - KartPad-folder import distinguishes a directory-access failure from an empty
folder, identifies signing-container changes, and offers Choose from
Files… as an immediate fallback.
The exact pre-release iPad candidate was installed in place, preserved the
existing KartPad data tree byte-for-byte, launched both Original Mario Kart Wii
and Retro Rewind, retained the existing license, and remained running. Those
results do not replace reporter testing of the two new experimental features.
Installation and reports
The IPA is unsigned and must be re-signed before installation. Update in place
with the same bundle identifier and signing identity to preserve game data and
saves. On iPhone or iPad, use Report a Problem…; on Mac, use Save
Diagnostics Report…. Review the bounded report before sharing it.
Never upload game images, extracted game data, a complete NAND or app
container, Retro Rewind installations, saves, signing credentials, or device
identifiers.
Distribution boundary
The IPA contains ahead-of-time translated game logic but no disc image,
extracted courses, textures, audio, Retro Rewind pack, saves, Apple signing
identity, or provisioning profile. This is a free, unofficial community preview
with unresolved upstream and game-code redistribution rights. See
RIGHTS_AND_LICENSES.md before redistributing it or expanding its release
channel.
