ChromaPaw 0.4.8
ChromaPaw 0.4.8
This release improves Windows recovery after Codex Store updates and verifies that plugin installations contain the selected release's actual files.
Changes
- Recover ordinary Codex startup when a Store update removes a previously pinned executable, using the verified official packaged-app identity.
- Persist reviewed skin activation and project-sidebar repair for the next managed launch. Requests are consumed only after successful verification.
- Synchronize the configured UI language, verify renderer readback, and retry bounded transient CDP timeouts.
- Add reviewed signed Store adapters and preserve application-menu contrast and transparent pet overlays.
- Compare installed files against the selected marketplace snapshot by SHA-256; reject missing modules and stale content even when version strings match.
- Exclude local dependencies, caches, logs and private artifacts from package staging; update recovery guidance and cross-platform tests.
Compatibility
Windows skin activation remains experimental and is enabled only for exact reviewed executable identities. Historical live acceptance covers signed Store builds 26.901.1978.0, 26.901.2854.0 and 26.901.5003.0. Store build 26.903.9818.0, observed during release preparation, has no reviewed adapter and skin activation remains disabled for it. A newer Store build is not covered merely because an earlier version passed.
macOS supports portable package tooling and a read-only compatibility probe; live skin activation is not implemented. The Apple Silicon and Intel harness uses a simulated renderer, not the signed logged-in Codex application. Pet generation requires a compatible external hatch-pet workflow.
Plugin installation does not activate a skin or replace an existing reviewed runtime generation. Start a new Codex task to load updated plugin skills.
Validation and downloads
The release process runs the repository checks and installs the plugin from the exact annotated tag before publishing. Local verification ran 192 tests with 191 passing and one symlink test skipped due to host permissions. Required cross-platform CI, enhanced macOS harness checks and CodeQL gate the merge.
Downloads include ZIP and TAR.GZ source archives, an SPDX JSON software bill of materials, and SHA256SUMS.txt. Use the checksums to verify downloaded assets.

ChromaPaw 0.4.5
Highlights
- Generate image-specific Skin Studio v2 packages with semantic IDE colors that stay readable on both light and dark artwork.
- Keep the last validated Windows skin through a separate, reversible
Codex ChromaPawDesktop and Start Menu launcher without modifying the original Codex shortcut. - Audit installed pets read-only as valid v2, legacy v1, or invalid; no pet is deleted or replaced automatically.
- Add deterministic regression coverage for landscape, portrait, ultrawide, transparent, dark, and light uploads.
- Add Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu CI plus a clean isolated plugin-install smoke test.
Install
codex plugin marketplace add chromapaw/codex-chromapaw --ref v0.4.5
codex plugin add codex-chromapaw@chromapawPlatform status
- Windows: pet and skin generation are supported; live skin activation remains an experimental, version-gated, reversible runtime.
- macOS: generation paths and pet packaging are cross-platform, but still require broader real-Mac validation; live skin activation remains probe-only.
See CHANGELOG.md and docs/RELEASE_CHECKLIST.md for the full release and validation details.
ChromaPaw 0.4.1 — Semantic Profiles + macOS Probe
What's new
- Adds a SHA-256-bound semantic theme profile for every uploaded skin reference.
- Derives motifs, exclusions, style, mood, depth, and safe zones from the current image and request instead of a fixed beach template.
- Rejects image/profile mismatches and motif/exclusion contradictions.
- Adds blue-sky and comic regression coverage to prevent unrelated scene leakage.
- Adds a machine-readable Windows/macOS capability report.
- Adds a read-only macOS bundle discovery and package preflight probe.
Platform status
- Windows: one-image skin and pet generation are ready when dependencies pass; live skin activation remains experimental and exact-version gated.
- macOS: generation and pet installation code paths are portable but still require real-Mac validation; live skin activation is not implemented.
Validation
- 48 unit tests passed.
- Plugin manifest, all three skills, JSON Schemas, and adapter registries passed validation.
- Remote marketplace installation from
mainresolved and installed version0.4.1in an isolatedCODEX_HOME.
ChromaPaw 0.4.0 — Reversible Windows Runtime Beta
Reversible Windows Runtime Beta
- Adds exact-version Windows Codex discovery, preflight, activation, verification, monitoring, private capture, stop, and restore.
- Injects validated Skin Studio v2 CSS in memory through a random loopback-only CDP endpoint; it does not modify WindowsApps, app.asar, signed executables, or application archives.
- Records executable, adapter, package, and session continuity hashes and recursively redacts session secrets from command output.
- Keeps delayed avatar-overlay windows synchronized and preserves the transparent pet background guard.
- Stops only verified runtime-owned processes, confirms the CDP port closed, and safely restores a known volatile Codex config key.
Compatibility
- Enabled: managed standalone Codex 26.707.9981.0, exact version only, isolated-live verified.
- Discovery only: official AppX 26.803.5235.0. Activation remains disabled because Windows rejected the protected-package direct launch required by this runtime.
- Unknown versions fail closed. This is an experimental compatibility layer, not an official OpenAI skin API.
Validation
- 38 automated tests passed.
- Plugin manifest, all three skills, and the adapter JSON schema passed their release validators.
- Real main-window and avatar-overlay activation, verification, process isolation, config restoration, and port shutdown were verified on Windows.
ChromaPaw 0.3.0 — Skin Studio MVP
Highlights
- Turn one reference image into a portable Skin Studio v2 package.
- Extract accessible light and dark palettes automatically.
- Generate light, dark, and adaptive CSS with pet-overlay isolation.
- Render six visual-QA previews across 16:10, 16:9, and 4:3 windows.
- Validate safe zones, depth layers, attribution, exact preview dimensions, and structured QA.
- Preserve validation compatibility for legacy schemaVersion 1 skins.
Live Codex skin activation is intentionally deferred to the reversible, version-gated 0.4 runtime. Desktop Pet Beta behavior from 0.2.1 remains available.
ChromaPaw 0.2.1 - Installable Pet Beta
ChromaPaw 0.2.1 adds a Git-backed Codex marketplace, explicit hatch-pet dependency preflight, an isolated CODEX_HOME install smoke test, and robust large WebP validation.
Install
codex plugin marketplace add chromapaw/codex-chromapaw --ref main
codex plugin add codex-chromapaw@chromapawRestart Codex and start a new task after installation.
Animated pet generation requires a compatible hatch-pet skill. ChromaPaw now checks this before generation and fails safely when it is missing. Live skin activation remains planned for a later release.
