Installation & Quick Start

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+
  • pip and virtualenv
  • Git

1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.com/chrys/my_rag.git
cd my_rag

2. Set Up Virtual Environment

python3 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate

3. Install Dependencies

pip install -r requirements/requirements.txt

(Optional: For local AI/vector index features, also run pip install -r requirements/requirements-ai.txt)

4. Environment Configuration

Create a .env file in the root directory and configure required variables:

DEBUG=True
SECRET_KEY=your-secret-key
GEMINI_API_KEY=your-gemini-api-key

5. Database Setup & Migrations

python manage.py migrate
python manage.py createsuperuser

6. Run the Application

Start the Django development server:

python manage.py runserver

Or use the convenience startup script:

./run.sh

Access the application at http://127.0.0.1:8000/.
