Better Cover v0.2.0 — Configure from the device

Choose a tag to compare

@chstech1 chstech1 released this 07 Sep 03:08

Configure Better Cover directly from each device page.

Open Settings → Devices & services → Devices and select your Better Cover blind or group. The Configuration section now exposes:

  • Number controls for limits, positions, sun geometry, brightness thresholds, temperature deadband, and timing.
  • Time controls for daytime, nighttime privacy, and morning reset.
  • Switches for inversion and window limits during manual pauses.
  • Dropdowns for the hardware cover, lift/tilt channel, and all sensor sources.
  • Add/remove member controls on group devices.

Edits save automatically. Routine changes apply without reloading the controller or clearing manual pauses or vacancy timers. Changing the vacancy sensor starts a fresh vacancy timer. Changing hardware cover or lift/tilt channel reloads the controller and preserves its saved manual pause.

Update through HACS and restart Home Assistant. Existing devices, controls, and saved settings are preserved; the configuration entities are added automatically. The integration Configure menu remains an optional alternative editor.

37 tests pass, including real Home Assistant number/time/switch/select service calls, persistence, input validation, live sensor subscription changes, and group membership edits.

Fix Better Cover appearing under Helpers instead of Integrations.

After updating through HACS, restart Home Assistant. Open Settings → Devices & services → Integrations → Better Cover, then select Configure (gear icon) for the blind or group. Edit a section, then choose Save settings.

Existing entries, entity IDs, and saved settings are preserved. Do not delete and recreate your controllers.

All 31 tests pass. This release changes the integration classification and documentation; positioning behavior is unchanged.

@chstech1 chstech1 released this 07 Sep 02:21

Initial Better Cover release for Home Assistant, installable through HACS custom repositories.

  • Sun tracking for shade height and slat tilt.
  • Day/night privacy schedules, room brightness, and outside-temperature comparison with a thermostat target.
  • Individual normal and window-open limits, including reversed position reporting.
  • Manual pauses with home-away, room-vacancy, and morning-reset resume triggers.
  • Groups that preserve each member's configuration.

HACS installation

Add https://github.com/chstech1/ABetterCoverController under HACS → Custom repositories with type Integration. Download Better Cover, restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings → Devices & services.

Automatic control starts OFF. Configure and verify one blind before enabling a group.

Tested against Home Assistant 2026.2.3 with 31 passing tests. Physical hardware verification is still required. The attached ZIP is for manual installation; HACS installs the integration directly from this release's repository files.
