CueLevel 2.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@chugs024 chugs024 released this 14 Oct 03:34

Fixed: dropping many files at once no longer leaves all but the first waiting, and levelling no longer freezes at Starting.
Music is never evened out: cues that play continuously like a song keep their loud and quiet parts. Each cue's type (Voice, Music, Music + voice) can now be set from its header.
Even out never lifts a fade-in or fade-out, never makes a stretch peak above the cue's loudest peak, and now handles long quiet passages.
Levelling with Even out is faster (the clip gain is rendered once).
You can drop a whole folder, or use Open With from Finder.
Clear reasons for files that can't be levelled: empty, damaged, or with no audio track. Silent cues say so.
Fixes: live meter labels, waveform stripes, leaving Edit mode while busy, the play button at the end of a cue, Level all skips unreadable files.

@chugs024 chugs024 released this 14 Oct 02:45

A new look: one window with your cues on the left, the cue in the middle and what CueLevel will do on the right.
Before levelling, CueLevel shows each step it plans (trim, even out, repairs, gain) with a tick box to skip any of them, and predicts the result.
A big loudness readout shows where the cue is now, where it will land and the target, on one ruler.
Colour now means level everywhere: blue is quiet, green is on target, amber is changed, red is too hot.
Prepare and Edit modes: Edit opens the clip gain editor (⌘E).
Show settings (⌘,) gathers loudness, files, references and processing in one place.
Lossless gain-only levelling is now the default file type.
New icon.

Not every cue needs changing: Quick Level now checks first. A cue within 1 LU of the target, with peaks under the ceiling, nothing to even out and no source problems is marked Already good.
Already-good cues are left untouched: an exact copy goes into the Levelled folder (same naming), and the report says No change needed.
The right panel shows why a cue is already good, compared with your reference library.

Even out no longer fades: each level change happens in the nearest pause with only a 5 ms click guard, so the level is simply right from that point on.
Reference shapes: CueLevel learns how much your approved references move between quieter and louder stretches (Measure reference shapes in References).
Good range: a band on the waveform shows where good material of this content type sits, and each cue is compared with it.
Even out now works as tightly as your good references, instead of a fixed 2 dB.

Transcript: see the words under the waveform and click to jump. Made on this Mac with Apple speech recognition; nothing is uploaded.
Lower gaps: turn down hiss and room noise in the pauses between phrases by 3, 6 or 10 dB.
Low-cut and de-ess on just the selected section, faded in so they never click.
Repair: remove DC offset and flip a channel wired out of phase, also as one-click fixes under Source checks.
Snap: section edges and in/out points land on the quietest nearby moment so edits never cut a word.
Versions: save alternative edits of a cue and switch between them.

Everything now saves to Desktop › CueLevel: Levelled files named _LVL-18, and dated reports in Reports.
Trim: set in/out points (I / O, drag the flags, or Trim silence). Audio is cut; video keeps its length and the audio outside is silenced.
Fades at the start and end of a cue with Linear, Smooth or S-curve shapes, and Apply fades to all cues.
Mute a section (M), markers (Return) shown in the show report, loop (L) with pre/post-roll, play section (P).
Live loudness meter under the transport: momentary, short-term and peak.
Keyboard shortcuts sheet (⌘/). Optional: trim silence automatically in Quick Level.

Quick Level this cue: one button at the top of the right panel. It levels the selected cue, switches to Levelled so you hear it, and shows before and after.
Even out (on by default): loud or quiet stretches, like one speaker much louder than the rest, are brought within about 2 dB with clip gain before levelling. Volume only; edit or remove them under Clip gain. Switch it off for music.
Even out button in the clip gain editor; automatic sections are marked "auto".
The top-bar switch is now called Level on drop.

Hear edits as you make them: playback in the editor includes your clip gain in real time.
Undo and redo (⌘Z / ⇧⌘Z), ↑/↓ to nudge 0.5 dB (Shift for 3 dB), fades typed in milliseconds.
Play section and Measure section loudness buttons.

Clip gain: drag anywhere inside a section up to make it louder or down to make it quieter.
A large dB readout shows the level while you drag, and the level line has an up/down grip.
Done editing now re-levels the cue straight away so you can hear your edits.

Fixed: Install and reopen now closes CueLevel and reopens the new version by itself.
Clip gain: select any section of a cue and drag it up or down, like Pro Tools, with draggable fades.
Mark a section that sounds right, then Match other sections to it to even out voices.
