Cadence 0.36.1 — a clearer path into your music

Cadence connects the music you want to play with listening, theory, focused instrument practice and your own creative ideas. This update strengthens saving and release distribution, and makes that learning journey clearer on the website.

Changes

  • A Developer ID signing and Apple notarisation workflow, with a stapled ticket and Gatekeeper verification for the public app ZIP. Signing credentials stay in the maintainer's Mac Keychain.
  • Dedicated library and practice owners. Practice evidence and review progress are saved together before success is shown. A failed new-composition save cannot select an unsaved score, and late AI results cannot update removed pieces.
  • Regression coverage for corruption, conflicting writes, old/future saved formats, first-install pathway persistence and observation through existing controls.
  • A clearer homepage, visible bass movement in the G7/D♭7 comparison, correctly spelled guide tones and a new social preview.
  • Tested release checks for signing identity, timestamps, entitlements, notarisation outcomes and source/build correspondence. No private user documents or credentials are included.

Downloads

The tested app is Apple silicon (arm64), macOS 14+. Extract the ZIP and move Cadence to Applications. Quit the old version first. BUILD.json records the actual signing, notarisation, architecture and source digest. Check the download against SHA256SUMS.txt.

The matching source archive includes pinned dependency source archives. The CycloneDX inventory still identifies unresolved versions inside the upstream notation bundle; it is not a claim of a complete dependency graph.

Preview boundaries

AI transcription needs review. Guitar microphone matching is monophonic. Physical MIDI/microphone behaviour, VoiceOver and Intel builds still need dedicated testing. Whole-app unit coverage remains around 11%, despite high coverage of the musical core and newly extracted persistence owners; native scenario checks supplement it. The app is not isolated by App Sandbox.

Your existing music and practice folder stays local. Back it up before trying development versions. Code is AGPL-3.0-or-later; original docs/art/examples are CC-BY-SA-4.0. Third-party licenses remain in place. Provided without warranty.

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Oct 04:12

Cadence 0.36.0 — a place to make music

The first public preview of Cadence: a free, copyleft Mac studio connecting music theory, piano, guitar, your scores and creative practice.

Explore scales and chords, edit linked notation/tab, bring in MusicXML or reviewed AI drafts from PDF, practise with MIDI, and build source-linked lessons from EPUB/PDF chapters. Hearing, explaining, playing and creating are tracked separately. Ordinary practice works offline; optional AI uses your own OpenRouter account.

This release also introduces a new original identity, a task-based guide, organised source, regression checks, dependency inventory and a public release process. The old decorative sidebar card is replaced by help and truthful storage status. Playback has a consistent stop control.

Downloads

  • The app ZIP is labelled with its actual architecture. The initial tested binary is Apple silicon (arm64), macOS 14+.
  • Cadence-0.36.0-source.tar.gz contains the matching application source, build scripts and pinned dependency source archives.
  • cadence.cdx.json is the CycloneDX dependency inventory. SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for the assets.

The app is ad hoc signed, not Apple notarised. macOS may require its normal Privacy & Security review before opening. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally. You may build from source instead.

Preview boundaries

AI transcription needs human review. MusicXML support is deliberately bounded and is not a universal lossless notation converter. Guitar microphone matching is monophonic. Physical MIDI latency and microphone behaviour depend on your setup. The release checks use virtual MIDI, original fixtures and offline audio rendering; they do not claim physical-device or full VoiceOver certification.

Your saved work stays in Cadence's Application Support folder; back it up before trying development versions. No private books, user library, recordings, API keys or paid model response logs are included.

Code: AGPL-3.0-or-later. Original docs/art/examples: CC-BY-SA-4.0. Third-party software and the separate GPLv2 sound bank retain their licenses. Provided without warranty.
