Release 2.4.0 [10-Aug-2026]

New features / enhancements

Issue #5 & #8: Support Sparx EA's new 64-bit .qea(x) project files. Performance is significantly better when generating documentation using the new .qea(x) format. New tests were added to provide additional coverage for this file format.

Issue #32: IEC 62351 Protocol Table Layout Support - contribution by Gigi Pugni

Added support for standard-specific document table layouts to accommodate requirements of the IEC 62351 protocol standards. The MIBs generation now includes a dedicated iec62351AttributesDoc implementation that provides customized table column definitions and content formatting for IEC 62351 documents, with extensible architecture for future standards-specific layouts.

Issue #33: Enhanced UML Information Collection and MODULE-COMPLIANCE Generation - contribution by Gigi Pugni

Improved UML information collection to extract document version metadata directly from the model, eliminating the need for embedded template definitions. Enhanced the MODULE-COMPLIANCE section generation to produce improved OID assignments while preserving backward compatibility with previous MIB editions, supporting the requirements of IEC 62351-7 Edition 2.

Credits

Gigi Pugni has contributed the enhancements delivered as issues #32 and #33, extending the MIBs generation he originally contributed in release 2.3.0 with IEC 62351 standard-specific table layouts and improved MODULE-COMPLIANCE generation for IEC 62351-7 Edition 2.

Performance changes in release 2.4.0

With the introduction of support for .qea(x) files the 64-bit execution with these files is notably more performant.

Deprecated API

Potential backwards compatibility breaking changes for the application user

Potential forwards incompatibility for the application user: old jCleanCim with new EA

  • N/A

Other user-visible changes

  • The binary distribution no longer contains the PDF version of the javadoc (doc/jCleanCim-[version].pdf). It was produced by PDFDoclet, which is built against the pre-JDK-9 doclet API that JDK 13 removed, and the project is unmaintained. The HTML javadoc in doc/api/ is unaffected.
  • UML class diagrams are no longer embedded in the javadoc. UMLGraph 5.6.6 has the same JDK 13 doclet incompatibility, and it was preventing javadoc generation entirely rather than only the diagrams. The Ant build target dependency graph in the source distribution still uses GraphViz and is unaffected.

Implementation and packaging:

  • added new test coverage for .qea(x) files.
  • upgraded libraries: Sparx Enterprise Architect 17.1 (both jar and dll).
  • upgraded Jacob Java-COM bridge and added .jar and .dll for 64-bit support.
  • added the SQLite JDBC driver (sqlite-jdbc) to read the .qea/.qeax project file format introduced in EA 16.x, which is backed by SQLite rather than MS Access. This is an addition, not a replacement: both project file formats remain supported.
  • upgraded Jackcess (2.1.0 to 2.2.3), which continues to read the legacy .eap/.eapx MS Access format; and Commons Logging (1.1.1 to 1.1.3).
  • updated the PPT presentation to reflect 64-bit support and relevant changes.
  • build: moved to javac --release 17; javadoc now fails the build on error instead of reporting it silently; retired the UMLGraph and PDFDoclet doclets (both incompatible with JDK 13+); corrected 16 malformed javadoc comments that the doclet failure had been masking.
  • sources: updated copyright year where relevant.

Documentation:

  • Note that there remains an outstanding documentation task to update the .pptx tutorial to include information on the enhancements made as part of the 2.3.0 release. This was delayed at that time due to time limitations and has been delayed once again for this release. Only relevant slides pertinent to the changes made for 2.4.0 have been updated in the presentation.
