Voirc is a voice and text chat app that needs no central servers. One person hosts the room and others join with a link.
It uses an embedded IRC server for signaling and WebRTC for voice and file sharing. There are no accounts and no tracking.
To use:
- Download the binary for your operating system and run it.
- To host a room, click Host a Room. Share the voirc:// link that appears.
- To join, paste a link from the host.
- If direct connection fails, the host can manually forward port 6667.
Key points:
- Nicknames require proof of work to reduce spam. The host can change the difficulty.
- Chat messages are signed with ed25519.
- Voice prefers direct connection but falls back to a relay on the host.
- Host and mods can kick, ban, and adjust pow difficulty.
Linux note: you may need libasound2-dev and libspeechd-dev.
Windows note: you may need to allow the binary through Windows Defender.
