PHOTfun v0.1.14 “Masterframe Ascension” Release + hotfix
Release Date: June 2025
Overview
This release marks a major step forward in enabling full, classic PSF photometry pipelines.
PHOTfun now supports DAOMASTER and ALLFRAME, allowing users to align and refine multi-image photometry using the same trusted tools used in crowded-field analysis for decades.
What’s New
-
🧩 DAOMASTER Integration
Automate star matching across multiple.alsfiles to generate a consistent reference frame and transformation file (.mch). Fully integrated into the PHOTfun interface. -
🧵 ALLFRAME Support
Perform simultaneous PSF photometry across multiple aligned frames using the.mchand.maginputs. Easily launch ALLFRAME directly from the GUI with minimal setup. -
🔧 Quality-of-Life Improvements
- Cleaner logging of external commands (DAOPHOT/ALLSTAR/ALLFRAME)
- More informative error messages and input validation
- New options for controlling DAOPHOT parameters from within the GUI
- Improved UI responsiveness and layout scaling
- Updated pillow package version (vulnerability bug)
Enhancements
- Full support for the DAOPHOT-II photometry cycle:
FIND → PHOT → PSF → ALLSTAR → DAOMASTER → ALLFRAME - Smarter file naming and output folder structure to avoid overwriting results
- Docker integration extended to support DAOMASTER and ALLFRAME seamlessly inside the container
Known Limitations
- Requires consistent
.alsfile formatting for DAOMASTER to function properly - ALLFRAME execution assumes precomputed .psf, .als, .mch, and .mag consistency—no automatic checking yet
- ALLFRAME and DAOMATCH executions are slow and without progression feedback
- Docker backend must have access to all relevant image and photometry files in a shared volume
