PHOTfun v0.1.4 “Spectral Awakening” Release

Overview

This version introduces PHOTcube, a powerful new extension for extracting stellar spectra from IFU datacubes using the same PSF photometry pipelines trusted in imaging. PHOTfun now bridges photometry and spectroscopy—seamlessly.

What’s New

  • 🔬 PHOTcube Extension (New Tab in Main GUI):
    A dedicated interface for slicing datacubes and extracting 1D spectra via consistent PSF photometry.

    • Cube Slicer Module

      • Load a MUSE or other IFU datacube
      • Automatically slice it into 2D monochromatic images
      • Save the slices to a user-specified folder
      • Load the slices into PHOTfun for photometric analysis

    • Spectrum Builder Module

      • Select a master list of target IDs (CSV format)
      • Load a set of .als photometry files derived from the cube slices (must have suffix slice_{wavelength})
      • Ensure consistency of IDs across slices (user responsibility)
      • Automatically reconstruct 1D stellar spectra
      • Export one CSV file per star (id{ID}.csv) with columns: wavelength, flux, flux_sig

Enhancements

  • New tabbed interface integrating image-based and spectro-photometric workflows
  • Improved error handling and visual feedback for missing or inconsistent inputs
  • Optimized export pipeline for spectrum generation

Known Limitations

  • PHOTcube assumes .als files are homogeneous in their ID lists
  • No validation for cross-slice consistency—user must ensure alignment
