QuietGlass 0.1.2
QuietGlass 0.1.2
Build 3 · macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon and Intel
This release follows 0.1.1 (build 2).
What changed
- Camera head tracking: Choose Camera or AirPods in Settings → Head tracking. Camera mode calibrates your normal position, blurs when you turn away, and clears when you face the screen again. Brief glances are filtered; sustained tracking loss keeps a calibrated screen protected. Processing stays on your Mac. This estimates head direction, not eye gaze or Apple Face ID.
- More selective nearby detection: Facing screen tracks additional faces, considers their estimated head direction, and waits for sustained presence. Any extra face retains the more cautious count-based response. Recognize me remains available for owner verification; camera head tracking and Nearby people share a camera while both are active.
- Smoother head-tracking blur: Display-synchronized animation, a softer moving edge, smooth reversals, and an eased transition from the temporary cover to the first blurred frame. Escape still clears immediately.
- Cleaner camera and blur previews: The camera check follows the actual camera aspect ratio, with a simpler coverage illustration. Blur appearance now uses a silent scrolling webpage video, with a still-image fallback for Reduce Motion.
- Window and layout fixes: Corrected transparent Screenshot helper windows interfering with protected areas, Dock geometry affecting warning placement, and Settings content overlapping navigation or the Dock. The original sidebar controls and black floating controls are retained.
- Updated setup documentation: The README, offline Help, permission prompt, and packaged getting-started guide explain camera head tracking and the independent camera-protection controls. Nearby people's enabled preference is retained across ordinary relaunches; Escape deliberately stops it.
Download and install
Download QuietGlass-0.1.2-macOS-universal.dmg, open it, and drag QuietGlass into Applications. Quit an older copy before replacing it. A ZIP alternative, SHA256SUMS, and PACKAGE-INFO.json are also attached.
This release is locally signed and not Apple-notarized. If macOS blocks the first launch and you trust the download, follow Apple's Open Anyway instructions. Allow Screen Recording for blur, and Camera or Motion & Fitness for the features you enable. Updates install manually.
Validation and limits
All 182 functional tests passed; the optional performance benchmark was skipped. Both executable architectures, bundled resources, archive integrity, checksums, and signatures after extraction were verified. The user confirmed camera-triggered blur and clearing on their Mac. The display-linked clock was checked at 120 Hz; the final animation's subjective feel remains unconfirmed.
Head direction is an estimate, and crowded-place false-alarm rates and battery impact have not been established. Camera protection only covers the camera's view. Recognition can make mistakes or be fooled by photos or video; it does not replace locking your Mac. Camera frames are processed locally and are not saved. Intel compilation is verified; Intel hardware execution and all external-display configurations are not. Blur may still briefly clear during physical Spaces or full-screen transitions.

This release follows QuietGlass 0.1.0 (build 1).
What changed
- Timed camera warnings: Warn me gives you two minutes to respond before blurring, with an adjustable delay. A compact orange-outlined notice shows the countdown and can play a short warning sound. Click the notice to open Nearby people settings for immediate blur, a five-minute pause, or resume.
- Simpler owner recognition: Follow a small head turn and look back at the camera. Deliberate eye closing is no longer required, and brief landmark loss is handled more comfortably.
- Camera choice and coverage checks: Select a camera, check whether people entering from either side are visible, and try a short warning/blur demonstration.
- Stronger app rules: Automatically protect an app's visible windows and remember selected areas for matching window titles.
- Blur fixes: Fixed the wallpaper square over the active window in Focus, added temporary coverage while the first captured frame arrives, and reduced unnecessary blur rendering and repeated text scanning.
- Refined design: Consistent rounded gray buttons, inline delete confirmation, tighter spacing, smaller supporting text, a lighter blur sample, and a simpler protection-check screen. The warning notice no longer contains an action-button row.
- Everyday setup: Optional launch at login, manual or optional daily update checks, About, and offline Help. Update installation remains manual.
