FormCheck 1.0 is the first Android release of an experimental, on-device squat-video analysis app.

Download FormCheck-1.0.apk below. Requires Android 7.0 (API 24) or later. The source-code archives are not the installable app.

Features

  • Analyze a prerecorded video locally; videos are not uploaded.
  • Detect the first complete squat repetition supported by the sampled observations.
  • View sampled video timestamps and estimated knee angles.
  • Compare estimated lowering duration with an optional, explicitly selected practice target.
  • View estimated lowering boundaries and a sampling-based duration range, with explanations when feedback is unavailable.
  • Cancel analysis and retry. Inputs survive screen recreation; rotation or leaving the app during analysis interrupts the work and requires a retry.

Using the app

  1. Install the APK and open FormCheck.
  2. Select a prerecorded squat video.
  3. Optionally choose a practice target. Only confirm the recording checkbox when the video shows a clear side view with the whole body visible.
  4. Tap Analyze video to view results.

An existing debug build may need to be uninstalled before installing this release because its signing key differs. Uninstalling clears app data. Installation availability can depend on Android developer-verification rules in your region and device settings.

Limits and verification

This is an educational prototype, not medical advice or an exercise-safety assessment. Timing, angles, and detection thresholds are experimental and have not been independently validated for broad accuracy. Practice targets are user choices, not recommendations. The sampling-based range accounts for frame sampling only; it does not include other pose, camera, or algorithm errors.

Verification included 91 passing JVM tests, five focused emulator tests, large-text/light/dark layout checks, and developer-reported installation and analysis using this signed release APK. These checks verify app behavior, not measurement accuracy.

The bundled pose model and its source are documented in docs/MODEL_SOURCES.md. AI assistance is disclosed in docs/AI_USE_LOG.md.
