@clumsyboss clumsyboss released this 19 Oct 17:08

Three new things on the Accounts page and in the status bar, and a thorough round of safety fixes for switching accounts.

What's new

  • See how full your chats are. A row of dots between the account name and the usage meter shows how much of this window's chat context is used. Green, then yellow from 80%, red from 95%. Hover it to see your other recent chats, and each account's card shows its most recent chat as a faint grid. While a chat is compacting, its dots fill and empty, and the new size shows as soon as it's done.
  • Start a 5-hour session early. The ▶ on an account's card, or next to it in the usage hover, says "hi" to Claude as that account without switching to it. The 5-hour window starts now, so it resets sooner. It uses the cheapest model with no tools, and no chat appears anywhere.
  • A login for another PC. ⋯ → Make a login for another PC… signs an account in once more, as a separate login, and seals it into a file protected by a passphrase you choose. This PC's own login is left untouched, and the two can't sign each other out. The Accounts page can't import the file yet; that comes in a later version.

Safer switching

  • A switch never saves one account's login under another account's name. If ~/.claude.json can't be read, it stops before changing anything, and if it fails part-way the previous login is put back. Saved logins are backed up before they are replaced.
  • registry.json is never written over while it has an error. The page tells you what's wrong, and registry.json.bak keeps the previous good copy.
  • Windows working at the same time no longer lose each other's changes.
  • Files keep their permissions and links. A ~/.claude.json that is a link stays a link, and if other users can read it, Show Status offers to fix that. Nothing is changed without asking.
  • A disableRemoteControl you set by hand is left alone.
  • On macOS, the Keychain is handled more carefully, and claude is found in more install locations.

Install

Download switcher-for-claude-code-1.2.0.vsix below, then run:

code --install-extension switcher-for-claude-code-1.2.0.vsix

Reload VS Code. Installing 1.2.0 upgrades 1.1.0 in place, and your saved accounts, names, icons and pins carry over.

Works on Windows, macOS and Linux. Saved logins are encrypted with your system's own credential store, and the extension has no servers of its own and no telemetry.
