Image Translate Extension

A Manifest V3 browser extension that detects images and canvas elements on web pages, runs OCR with PaddleOCR, and overlays translated text directly on top of the originals in-page.

Highlights

  • Auto-detects images and canvas on page load, SPA navigation, and dynamic DOM changes
  • OCR with PaddleOCR via offscreen document
  • Translates OCR regions with the free Google Translate API (33 languages)
  • Hover any translated box to re-translate into another language on demand
  • Per-item independent OCR so one failure never breaks the batch
  • Two-level translation cache (memory + IndexedDB)
  • Configurable target language via popup Settings
  • Asset caching in IndexedDB

Install

Load unpacked from .output/chrome-mv3 (Chrome) or .output/firefox-mv2 (Firefox), or use the packaged zip.

Known Limitations

  • Translation uses the free Google Translate endpoint (rate limits apply)
  • Fixed target language per session (configurable in Settings)
  • Not yet published to browser stores
