Welcome to v1.2.1-beta! This version brings bug fixes, minimal visual changes, and more stability while setting the stage for new features coming in a future release.
New fixes
- Better playlists: In previous VaultTune versions, creating a playlist with a couple songs would significantly slow down the frontend when initially joining a room, and a playlist with around 10 songs would cause a particular room to be essentially non-functional. This release entirely fixes this issue.
- Loading up to 20 songs at a time: This version revises loading songs to only load up to 20 songs at a time. If a user has more than 20 songs in their Vault, a "Load more" button will appear at the bottom of the list of songs which will display the number of songs that can be loaded. This revision will make initially joining rooms significantly faster especially for Vault users with more than 40+ songs.
- Playback redesign: Playback was slightly redesigned in a non-noticeable way and will be built on further in the next release that fixes playlists.
- Better Vault auth (timeout): When the Vault app is opened, the Vault will authenticate with the selected API (default VaultTune API or a self-hosted backend) and register with its database of Vaults. In v1.2.0-beta, a Vault would timeout after 5 seconds of waiting for a response to an authentication request and prompt the user to log in again. The timeout was extended to 60 seconds to provide a more reasonable timeframe before requesting sign-in.
- Better notifications: Vault notifications now automatically dismiss themselves, and now several notifications can be displayed at once. In addition, Vaults now provide a notification when a user leaves a Vault. These changes are coming to the frontend in a future release.
- Song sorting: Songs are now (finally) sorted by alphabetical order.
- Better UI: Users on light mode would often see strange looking interfaces. Light mode has been disabled and will be redesigned and enabled in a future release. Further, VaultTune's frontend now properly renders a song with several artists listed. Finally, the upload song dialog has improved visual changes.
- Better uploading of songs: When uploading a song through the frontend, it will now require only audio files to be uploaded which is reflected in File Explorer when selecting a song to upload.
- Better mobile usage: On Android, VaultTune is considered a foreground process, requiring it to maintain a Notification to keep it alive upon losing focus (i.e. a user leaves the Chrome app). VaultTune now maintains a song notification even after playback is stopped, allowing the frontend to retain a connection to the backend for longer despite Android's aggressive killing of socket connections. You'll notice this if you stop playback and see a media notification called "VaultTune Player".
Known issues:
- Playlists: While playlists were improved in this version, playlists are unable to be fully played as a result of the previous version's huge playback revision. This will be fixed in a coming release
- Playback: While minimal, users have reported playback issues. These should be corrected in a future release.
Good luck, and enjoy your music!
