Stratux Read-Only Edition 2.1-ro1
Stratux Read-Only Edition 2.1-ro1
Based on stratux/stratux master (after v2.0-pre5). It is built to be safe to power off by just pulling the plug, and adds Wi-Fi and cockpit-usability tweaks.
Flashing
Download image_2026-10-04-stratux-lite.zip and write it to a microSD card with Raspberry Pi Imager ("Use custom") or balenaEtcher. Both tools accept the zip directly. Connect to the Stratux Wi-Fi network and open http://192.168.10.1.
stratux-2.1-ro1-arm64.deb is the update package for existing Stratux installs (Settings → System Update).
SD card protection (read-only)
- The root filesystem runs from a RAM overlay. This is inherited from upstream and is on unless "Persistent logging" is enabled.
- New: the boot partition (
/boot/firmware, which holdsstratux.conf) is remounted read-only every time Stratux starts. It becomes writable for under a second only while settings are saved or an update is uploaded. Settings are written atomically, so a power cut leaves either the old settings or the new ones, never a corrupt file. - The Status and Cockpit pages show the state. Look for SD Card: Protected (read-only).
- Pulling power is safe, except while an update is installing or if Persistent logging is on.
- Shell aliases
bootrw/bootro. Create/boot/firmware/.stratux-boot-rwto opt out.
Wi-Fi tuning (fewer EFB dropouts)
- Wi-Fi power save is always turned off. It is a common cause of iPads losing the Stratux.
- The regulatory domain is applied from the WiFi Country setting before the AP starts.
- New WiFi TX Power setting (driver default, or 20/17/14/10/7 dBm).
- Settings page hints: use channel 1, 6 or 11; set your country; use AccessPoint mode (not AP+Client) in flight.
Turn off what you don't use
- The receiver, sensor and output toggles (GPS, UAT, 1090, OGN, AIS, APRS, AHRS, Baro, Ping, Pong) are moved out of Developer Mode into a Hardware & Services panel on the Settings page.
- New Bluetooth LE toggle. Off blocks the BT radio, which shares the 2.4 GHz antenna with Wi-Fi. A restart applies it.
Web UI
- New Cockpit page (menu → Cockpit): large, high-contrast green/amber/red tiles for GPS fix, NACp and accuracy, satellites, EFB clients, traffic, CPU temperature, SD protection and sensors. A red NO DATA banner appears if updates stop.
- The Status page shows a colored NACp badge (8 or higher is good) and the SD card protection state.
Notes
- This is the first build of this edition. Bench-test before flight: after first boot, confirm the green SD Card badge, that your EFB connects, and that settings survive a reboot.
- Default login over SSH:
pi/raspberry.
