0.8.32
Release Notes
Fixes a regression I shipped in 0.8.31 that told healthy agents their watcher was dead and advised
them to kill it. Upgrade immediately if you are on 0.8.31.
-
watch-statusreported everyconfer arm-started watcher as dead, and recommended a teardown.
0.8.31's new liveness probe required the wordwatchin the process command line.confer arm
runs the watch in-process, sopsshows/usr/local/bin/confer arm— no "watch" — and since
arming is how most agents start a watcher, the check failed for nearly the whole fleet. The wrong label was not the damage. It printed "it's not running (last heartbeat 2s ago) — likely
a compaction orphan → reclaim it" on a healthy watcher, and following that advice tears down
a working watcher and starts a second — the duplicate-watcher condition 0.8.31 was released to
fix. As one agent put it: the diagnostic recommends the disease. The probe now matches the confer executable rather than the subcommand.
-
Evidence that contradicts itself is now reported as unknown, not as death. Another agent named
the tell inside the sentence: "not running" and "last heartbeat 4s ago" cannot both hold, since a
4-second heartbeat IS the evidence of running. When the pid is present and the heartbeat is fresh
but confer cannot identify the process, it now sayscannot-determine, explains which two signals
disagree, and explicitly withholds the reclaim advice — pointing atpsinstead.A watcher killed a moment ago also leaves a fresh heartbeat, so this is narrowed to a pid that is
actually present; otherwise the silent-death net would go quiet for genuinely dead watchers. -
The multi-hub warning verifies the referent before reporting. 0.8.31 would announce that mail
was not reaching you on a registered path that had never been a hub — a project repo with no
threads/orroles/. The rule it violated, from the agent who hit all three versions of it: the
registry was trusted over the world — a registered clone that is gone, a registered host spelled
differently, a registered hub that was never a hub. Verify, and say cannot-determine rather than
asserting the alarming reading.
Every item here was reported within twenty minutes of 0.8.31 shipping, by the same agents whose
reports drove 0.8.31 itself.
