What's new in v1.2.0

Two surfaces, one skill

The conversiontools skill now teaches the agent to pick the right surface based on the environment:

  • ctio CLI (preferred when shell access is available) - composes via Unix pipes, streams stdin / stdout directly, handles arbitrarily large files, no base64 overhead, snappy 500 ms polling. Install with scoop install ctio on Windows or a one-line curl on macOS / Linux. Full docs at https://conversiontools.io/docs/ctio.
  • MCP server (fallback, zero-install) - unchanged from v1.1.0. Auto-connects when the plugin is installed.

The skill includes a which ctio capability check and full install + auth + verbs reference for ctio. When the agent has a terminal, conversions can be done with single shell commands instead of base64-encoded MCP calls.

Expanded AI-powered converters section

The 14 AI converters now have their own dedicated section with four sub-groups, each with a per-type table and use-case guidance:

  • Document data extraction (5): PDF / JPG / PNG to JSON / CSV / Excel / Markdown. Best for invoices, receipts, forms, statements where standard pdf_to_csv struggles.
  • AI Text-to-Speech (4): PDF / DOCX / Markdown / Text to MP3. Multiple languages and voices.
  • AI Speech-to-Text (3): MP3 / WAV / FLAC to Text. Fast multi-language transcription.
  • AI Subtitle Translation (1): SRT to another language while preserving timestamps.

Categories refreshed from live registry (205 converters)

Snapshot regenerated from the live ConversionTools registry. New entries called out:

  • RSS / Sitemap to CSV / Excel (web feeds)
  • OXPS to PDF, PDF to XPS (Microsoft XPS support)
  • HTML metadata extraction
  • JSONL family expanded (to / from CSV, Excel, JSONL)
  • Parquet family expanded (to / from CSV, Excel, JSON, JSONL, XML)
  • Image science formats: PAM, PGM, PPM, YUV output
  • Markdown as a dedicated category (to / from PDF, DOCX, HTML, EPUB, LaTeX, Text)

Other changes

  • README (top-level + plugin variant) now mentions the ctio CLI in install options
  • plugin.json + marketplace.json bumped 1.1.0 -> 1.2.0

Install

Existing users get this on next claude plugin update. Anthropic's community-marketplace CI auto-bumps the pinned SHA, so users via claude-plugins-community pick it up too within a day or so of this push.
