bug when launching template-gui through Windows remote desktop

When template-gui is launched through Windows remote desktop, there appears many error messages in command line, and traces do not appear in any of the views. This does not happen when template-gui is launched locally and then accessed through remote desktop.

hi @rossant, the remote desktop used to work for me about a year ago, but then I just tried it recently and it stopped working in a manner similar to what @dshimaoka was describing. Looking at the link you sent, could it have been working in software open gl mode, and now that mode is no longer used as a fallback? I also get this behavior through teamviewer now, although I could swear it used to work fine.

My use case is that I have a powerful computer doing the spike sorting, that I'd like to remote into for checking on the results. The alternative is to copy the results to my laptop, including the binary file, which can be very slow, especially over the internet.

I looked more into this and it seems that a workaround is to start the opengl program before the remote session. I had Phy already running and remote-ing allowed the graphics session to continue fine. I then tried connecting with teamviewer again and this time Phy started with full graphics capabilities.

So my workaround is to start Phy from teamviewer, and then switch to remote desktop. Or just use teamviewer.
