ReqIF2Excel 1.2.0
ReqIF2Excel 1.2.0 — improvements from testing against two real IBM DOORS classic module exports (about 1,000 and 1,800 objects, hierarchies six and seven levels deep). Nothing was lost in either file; these changes fix one wrong result and make the workbook far easier to read.
What changed
- Correct file for every drawing (DOORS). When one object embeds several drawings of the same kind, DOORS can write the first drawing's file name into each later one and leave the correct file orphaned in the archive. Taken literally, the later drawing was traced to the wrong file. The converter now uses the orphaned file, but only when no rich text anywhere references it, and says so in a warning and on the Attachments sheet. A file genuinely shared by two objects stays shared.
- Tables stay tables. DOORS wraps every table cell in paragraph blocks, which put each cell on a line of its own. Each row is now one line, cells separated by
|. - Indentation kept. DOORS's nested indentation (sub-bullets, sub-clauses) is kept, four spaces per level.
- No duplicate pictures. A picture object that carries its own preview (a DOORS BMP with a PNG) is shown once; the preview is still saved and listed.
- Cleaner sheets. The Type column no longer repeats an internal identifier when the source gives the type no name. Attribute columns that no row fills are hidden, never deleted, and listed on the Summary sheet (new option
hide_empty_columns, on by default). - Command-line mode needs no display libraries — the program converts from a script even where the window cannot start.
Your existing reqif2excel_config.json keeps working: the two newer options take their defaults when absent. The file in these archives lists every option.

ReqIF2Excel-1.2.0-windows-x64.zip |
Windows 10/11, 64-bit | Unzip, double-click ReqIF2Excel.exe. Nothing to install. |
ReqIF2Excel-1.2.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz |
Linux x86-64, glibc 2.27 or newer | tar -xzf …, then run ./ReqIF2Excel. Nothing to install. |
SHA256SUMS.txt |
Checksums of both archives. |
Both builds also convert from a script: ReqIF2Excel export.reqifz --out export.xlsx.
Notes
- The Windows exe is not code-signed. SmartScreen may warn on first launch: More info → Run anyway.
- Linux compatibility was measured over every bundled library: glibc 2.27 or newer (Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, RHEL/Rocky/Alma 8+, Fedora 28+). It carries its own Tcl/Tk.
build/build_linux.shrebuilds it reproducibly. - Both binaries were built from this tag and checked against it; the same three real exports convert with identical results in each build.
74 regression checks. Every test fixture is synthetic.
ReqIF2Excel 1.1.1
First public release of ReqIF2Excel: convert a ReqIF / ReqIFz requirements export into an Excel workbook without losing a single image or attachment.
Every picture, OLE object and attached file a requirement references is shown on the requirement's own row, marked in place inside its text ([IMG 1: diagram.png]), saved next to the workbook byte for byte, and traced on an Attachments sheet to its owning requirement, attribute, sheet and row. Anything unresolvable becomes a visible MISSING marker plus an error on the Summary sheet; a file in the archive that no requirement references is extracted too and listed as unreferenced.
Tested on synthetic DOORS-classic and Codebeamer archives, ten public fixtures (DOORS, Polarion, Enterprise Architect, Eclipse RMF) and a real 34 MB Codebeamer export (664 requirements, 386 embedded objects, converted in about a second with no error). 65 regression checks, hardened by a 34-agent adversarial review.

Each archive holds the program, its options file reqif2excel_config.json, the licence and the user guide (PDF). Keep the options file next to the program.
Both builds also work from a script, with the same options as the Python version:
ReqIF2Excel.exe export.reqifz --out export.xlsx (Windows)
./ReqIF2Excel export.reqifz --out export.xlsx (Linux)
Notes
- The Windows exe is not code-signed. SmartScreen may warn on first launch: choose More info → Run anyway, or ask IT to allow it.
- Linux compatibility was measured, not assumed. Every library in the bundle was scanned for its glibc symbol requirements; the highest is glibc 2.27, so it runs on Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, RHEL/Rocky/Alma 8+ and Fedora 28+. It carries its own Tcl/Tk, so the window needs only a running display. The Linux build leaves out Pillow's AVIF codec, which ReqIF attachments never use and which alone would have raised the requirement to glibc 2.38.
- When a window-less Windows exe is driven from a script it writes its log to
ReqIF2Excel_last_run.lognext to the workbook.
