The Pi's Password
The Pi's default username and password are as follows:
username: pi
password: cpsvip42
Changing the Password
Having a default username and password is not very secure. Since we are connecting to it using a direct ethernet connection, this is not a huge concern, but since this is a security-focused class, it might still be a good idea to change the password to help prevent unauthorized access.
In the Pi's desktop, open a terminal.
Type passwd and click enter.
Follow the on-screen prompts.
This will not change the password for the VNC server. To change this password:
In the Pi's desktop, open a terminal.
type sudo vncpasswd -legacy -service and click enter.
If prompted, enter your new admin password that you set above
Follow the on-screen prompts.
Note: While this will prevent others from logging into the Pi, someone could still take the SD card out and mount it on their computer to access the entire filesystem. Protecting against this requires a relatively complex solution that may be investigated by the security group in the near future.
