@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 13:52

Phémios 0.3.1

Try Phémios in your browser with ten freely licensed recordings and the same published Rust audio foundation as the desktop application. This release also improves podcasts, globe navigation, refresh feedback and physical CD discovery. Original music files and tags remain unchanged.

Added

  • Playable WebAssembly demo: browse ten distinct covers in Albums/Cover Flow, explore artists and tracks, build a queue and use playback, seeking and volume without installing the App. The website’s Try Phémios button opens the public demo. Scott Buckley and Chris Zabriskie recordings retain their CC BY 4.0 attribution; demo audio is not added to desktop installers.
  • A separate self-hosted Web profile connects to a same-origin Aède with memory-only named credentials and bounded original-file playback. Public GitHub Pages never asks for a private server login. This initial browser profile does not provide native devices, supervised playback, crossfade or complete desktop parity.
  • Accept Apple Podcasts show and episode sharing links through a bounded public lookup, retaining account ownership and canonical RSS admission.
  • Identify missing physical CD track names automatically through exact MusicBrainz TOC matches; conflicting editions retain generic titles. No Aède account is required.

Fixed

  • Restore browser demo globe geometry and appearance artwork under project/subdirectory deployments. Keep the final consumed position after natural playback completion and reload stale page state restored from the back/forward cache after its credentials were retired.
  • Retire delayed media preparations, worklet gain changes and gateway responses when stopped or disconnected, preventing late starts, stale mute and unfinished proxy responses.
  • Discover connected empty optical readers and retain their hardware names on macOS. Refresh can retry without inserted media; ejection uses a freshly verified unique system target. Keep circular Play glyphs centered.
  • Hide the footer waveform and time placeholders when there is no playback.
  • Keep Playback and Settings icon returns scoped to the active account, including delayed navigation. Give the country globe interruptible drag inertia and bounded rendering.
  • Unify Refresh loader/Stop feedback, retire cancelled reads and account-replaced results, paginate podcast episodes and clarify remote catalogue-cache removal.

Changed

  • Native macOS menus retain the useful application, editing and window commands. Output and volume controls share the foreground color and displayed sections retain their active accent.
  • Native and Web builds share UI and versioned audio source while keeping separate artifacts and capabilities. The Pages workflow builds and validates the WASM demo alongside the website and manual.

Choose your download

The local Aède engine is included. Phémios has no standalone CLI package; Aède CLI downloads belong to the separate Aède project. Choose one installer for your OS:

Your system Phémios 0.3.1 installer and checksum
macOS — Apple Silicon (M1 or later) dmg · SHA-256
Windows — Intel/AMD x64 msi · SHA-256 / exe · SHA-256
Linux — Intel/AMD x86_64 AppImage · SHA-256 / deb · SHA-256 / rpm · SHA-256

Each installer has its own SHA-256 sidecar. On macOS/Linux, compare shasum -a 256 FILE or sha256sum FILE with the sidecar; on Windows use Get-FileHash FILE -Algorithm SHA256.

  • macOS Apple Silicon: M1 or later; open the DMG and drag Phémios to Applications. There is no Intel Mac build.
  • Windows x64: Intel/AMD 64-bit Windows; use either MSI or NSIS EXE. Windows ARM64 and 32-bit packages are not included. The configured installer can download WebView2 when it is absent, so that installation step may need a network connection.
  • Linux x86_64: Intel/AMD 64-bit desktop Linux; choose AppImage, DEB or RPM for your system. Builds use Ubuntu 22.04 and GTK3/WebKitGTK 4.1. AppImage/FUSE availability and distribution runtime libraries remain host prerequisites. No Linux ARM64 graphical App or 32-bit build is included; an Aède ARM64 CLI package is a different product.

First launch and limits

macOS builds use complete ad-hoc integrity signatures for the App and its embedded engine, with App/DMG verification before upload. They are not Developer ID signed or Apple-notarized; Gatekeeper approval may still be required. Windows installers remain unsigned and SmartScreen may request review. Check the downloaded SHA-256 and follow the first-run guide. FFmpeg/FFprobe and optional device tools are not bundled.

The release workflow selects the latest published stable Aède once for all platforms and records its version/SHA in the build logs. Local preparation used published Aède 0.7.5; CI records its own actual selection. Stable collection identities require Aède 0.7.4 or later; a separately configured remote server may need updating/restarting. Language-aware biography refreshes and label-logo presentation require a compatible engine and explicitly selected enrichment services. Existing audio and retained biographies are preserved on failed enrichment.

Native build/test success does not establish installed runtime, physical audio/CD/device or live-provider acceptance. Real-disc CD-Text acceptance, native Linux/Windows optical behavior and the cause of reported intermittent optical dropouts remain unconfirmed. CD-Text is optional ASCII/Latin-1 disc metadata, not an online lookup. Concerts live-provider acceptance remains pending. Bit-perfect playback is unavailable on the remote f32/CPAL route. The stabilization campaign and PH-C09 retain their own acceptance requirements; this release does not close them or reattribute historical manual acceptance to a new installer.

Phémios v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 19:00

Phémios 0.3.0

Phémios is a local-first desktop music player and library explorer with a bundled Aède engine. This release adds collections as sidebar menus, linked biographies, cached label logos, session navigation memory and improved local CD playback. Original audio files and their tags stay unchanged.

The changes below describe user-facing features and fixes. The release workflow appends every commit since v0.2.0 and the complete comparison link.

Added

  • Show a progressive CD waveform from audio already read for playback, retaining it on pause and leaving unread regions empty. On macOS, Linux and Windows, read optional on-disc CD-Text titles/performers (ASCII/Latin-1) without network lookup or new dependencies; unsupported/missing metadata keeps generic names and audio playback. Linux uses a fixed read-only SG_IO query and Windows read-only READ_TOC_EX. Native Linux/Windows and real-disc CD-Text acceptance remain pending.

  • Make biography links visible and link known catalogue genres and retained track titles in artist/label summaries and full readers. Open a unique track directly; offer the retained album editions when a title has several placements. Link biography years to all owned albums of that year, only when such albums exist, clearing stale browse filters. No background enrichment or text changes.

  • Show cached label logos beside names in Labels and in label headers, preserving their proportions. Use an accessible fallback icon when unavailable, including older engines. Logos reuse Aède’s explicit Fanart.tv enrichment and the existing offline image cache.

  • Preview the first queued track's cover, title and artist in the idle footer after a + addition, including individual tracks, without starting playback. Existing playback details stay in place.

  • Collections as custom menus: choose a saved collection in Settings → Navigation and open its albums directly from the sidebar. The collection and every shortcut share the same name: rename from either view, move it anywhere in the menu, hide it, or remove the shortcut while retaining the collection. Stable Aède IDs keep renames linked and prevent deleted/recreated names taking over old shortcuts. Collection rules stay in Aède and shortcuts follow the active account/library profile. Search within the collection and return from album/artist detail without losing the originating menu.

  • Shared settings lists: excluded folders and available collections use a bounded scrollable list with keyboard selection. Exclusion removal with Delete/Backspace or minus selects the preceding row, falling back to the following row when needed, for repeated removals. Drag/drop or Alt+arrow keys rearranges exclusions locally without changing scan behavior.

Fixed

  • Remove the final CD track divider. Detect connected Mac optical writers without inserted media, enable Eject for empty/unreadable discovered drives, and allow Refresh to retry discovery without a disc. Active-disc ejection remains guarded natively.

  • Move CD Eject into the header between Open CUE image and Refresh, keeping it visible and disabled without a detected drive/image. CD and current-track Play now toggle Pause/Resume without replacing the active disc queue or its position.

  • Remember the main scroll position of each view and collection shortcut during the session, including the artist-card panel and returns through the sidebar. Wait for delayed list content where needed; new metadata filters start at the top and account/source changes discard old positions.

  • Keep label logos inside their reserved frame and display cached transparent PNG logos reliably when opening a label on macOS.

  • Respect the App language during general biography enrichment. With the corrected Aède engine, previously cached biographies in another language are reconsidered without forcing unrelated passes; failed retrievals preserve the previous text. Clearly identify a differing biography language in artist and label details.

  • Rotate shared refresh arrows clockwise, including Audio CD and network players. Align the Collections visibility/name spacing with the duration/rename spacing, enable cover sizing in Genres compact lists, and remove the duplicate divider above MusicBrainz review.

  • Retain selected sort and display controls while navigating during the session, including Labels sorted by album count in reverse order, personal album layouts and Collections order. Keep reverse catalog sorting independent per view; new App sessions start with defaults.

  • Center enlarged covers and missing-cover placeholders even when a long title widens the dialog; preserve the Close button size.

  • Restore the incomplete-listening corner marker in Compilations across Grid, List and Cover Flow, using confirmed private completion state only.

  • Keep Pause available while an accepted catalogue stream is buffering, instead of disabling the footer or attempting another start. Refresh local buffering transitions at the active cadence while retaining serialized commands and HQPlayer polling limits.

  • Keep narrowed alphabet/year bands attached to the pointer through diagonal and fast movement outside the rail, including capture loss. Enlarge the grip, apply the final release position, skip unchanged filter updates and clean up on cancellation or window changes.

  • Replace the inaccessible Aède server-log instruction with a View diagnostics action. The session-only journal retains sanitized failed-operation summaries and clears on account replacement/logout. Unreadable personal data now prompts an engine-version compatibility check without exposing raw server errors or suggesting a reset.

  • Keep the Collections result count above expanded albums with a 16px gap before covers, without evaluating collapsed collections.

  • Settings lists start dragging only from their dot grips. Exclusion and collection row bodies retain ordinary selection without a drag cursor or accidental row move.

  • Complete macOS ad-hoc signing now covers the App, its resources and its embedded Aède executable. Build/release checks reject an invalid seal or a different App inside the DMG before uploads. This is integrity signing; Developer ID and Apple notarization remain separate.

  • Remove the duplicate outer FlacCompagnon title so analysis and spectrum frames begin at the same position. Square the colored MD5 border's left corners; spectra retain their framed download control and 16px heading/content gap.

  • Empty exclusion-list messages are centered horizontally and vertically.

Changed

  • Remove the redundant inner border from circular Add-to-queue badges on artists, albums and tracks, keeping their outer circular shape.

  • Simplify label details: remove alphabet/year filters and compact-view switching, retain reverse sorting and collection creation, and always show all owned albums in a grid. New label collections have no hidden date/alphabet restriction.

  • Rename the compact album presentation to Compact list and unify its icon in Albums, Compilations, Genres and Composers. Place years below titles and center each metadata group beside its cover. Cover hover or keyboard focus reveals proportionally sized Add/Play controls, left/right, replacing trailing row actions; touch controls remain visible.

  • Editorial artist rows omit artist-level Play and queue-append buttons and use the recovered space for two or three album previews when the list is wide enough. Hovering or focusing an album cover reveals its own centered Play button. Narrow layouts retain readable artist details and independent album links.

  • Place the Collections expansion eye before each collection name, keeping rename and removal controls on the right without evaluating collapsed collections.

  • All semantic interface icons now use the same Lucide component library, size, stroke and color conventions. The credits identify Lucide as the shared icon source.

  • Navigation places available collections to the right of menus, below them on small screens. Collections can be selected and added, or dragged directly to the desired menu position.

  • GitHub release descriptions retain a readable feature/fix summary followed by every commit since the previous stable tag and a full comparison link.

  • Collection menus no longer need a separate initial name or permanent Refresh button. Compatible Aède ID support is required; old engines show an explicit update/restart message.

  • Navigation headings have no icons or empty icon slots; unnamed spacer rows have no text or icon, and settings lists use the queue-style translucent pointer-following drag preview. Name a spacer to create a custom group heading, or clear its name to restore blank space.

  • Add a reverse-order button immediately before Create in Collections, with the shared control gap, reversing the filtered current page without evaluating collapsed collections.

  • Refine Navigation spacing, remove drag-grip frames and align spacer removal beside the movement arrows. Reduce Stop glyphs consistently while preserving button hit areas.

  • Pinned collections now use the same album catalog and header as Albums, with filter rails, reverse order, recent additions and explicit list/grid/Cover Flow presentations. Cover sizing is enabled in album List and Grid modes, including Albums and Compilations; narrow list rows limit artwork width to preserve readable titles and actions. Searches and filters stay inside each collection, and the loader is centered in the content area.

  • Remove the unnecessary reset icon in keyboard-shortcut preferences.

  • Albums, collection menus and Composers have a Grid action between List and Cover Flow. Compilations gains Cover Flow and keeps Grid by default; each view remembers its presentation during the session.

  • Center Play glyphs consistently over cover artwork. Keep empty-spacer pencils beside Trash with a full-width name lane.

  • Move collection rename pencils after the name and immediately before T...

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 16:35

Phémios 0.2.0

Phémios is a local-first desktop music player and library explorer. Its bundled Aède engine manages the catalogue; a separate Aède server is optional. You can use local and remote libraries together without changing original audio files or their tags.

Included experience

  • Browse albums, artists and Cover Flow, with filters and collaboration credits.
  • Listen with a shared queue, available synchronized lyrics, visualizations and DSP controls.
  • Keep personal favourites, ratings, tags, notes and dynamic collections.
  • Explore radio, RSS podcasts, audio CDs/CUE images and saved articles.
  • Read retained FlacCompagnon analysis results and explicitly request supported media jobs.
  • Use the French/English interface, preferences and the online manual.

This release consolidates the existing application and stabilization corrections. The README now exposes the real native-build and website status badges, and download names distinguish both operating system and architecture. Application manifests, browser preview identity and HTTP client version identification follow 0.2.0.

Choose your download

The local Aède engine is included. Phémios has no standalone CLI package; Aède CLI downloads belong to the separate Aède project. Choose one installer for your OS:

These builds are unsigned and not Apple-notarized. Gatekeeper/SmartScreen may require manual review; check the downloaded checksum and source before authorizing the App. See the first-run guide. FFmpeg/FFprobe and optional device tools are not bundled.

Native build/test success is separate from installed runtime, physical audio/CD/device, signing and provider acceptance. Earlier manual Mac acceptance covered its identified 0.1.0 DMG; it is not relabeled as a fresh 0.2.0 installation test. Concerts is implemented but live-provider acceptance remains pending. The stabilization campaign retains its documented limits; this release does not close PH-C09 or the campaign. Bit-perfect playback is unavailable on the remote f32/CPAL route.

The release workflow resolves the latest published stable Aède source once for all platforms and records its version/SHA in the build logs. Installer publication follows successful native jobs and the maintainer's explicit release authorization; tags and older release assets are not replaced.
