Why NoSQL MongoDB for the backend?
MongoDB was selected as the backend database due to its flexible document-based storage. Additionally, its natural compatibility with JavaScript objects (stored as BSON) simplified data handling between the server and database.
JSON vs JavaScript and How JSON Bridges Frontend and Backend
- JavaScript is a full programming language enabling dynamic content, logic, and user interaction within browsers.
- JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format used primarily for structuring and transmitting data.
In the project, JSON served as the "common language" between frontend and backend. When sending data from the SPA to the backend Express server (or receiving responses), data was serialized into JSON format. For example, submitting a new task from the frontend generated a JSON payload that the server could directly parse and store in MongoDB.
