Spaced Linux 10.26 opens the October 2026 line.
Three 9.26.4 fixes (#192, #234, #235) did not hold on real hardware. Each one is fixed again here at its root cause and tested on the actual behaviour, not only the configuration.
Highlights:
- Restart after installing works, with a proper "Remove the USB stick" screen (#251, #192). In 9.26.4 the restart helper crashed before showing anything. With "Restart now" ticked, the desktop now closes completely. A black screen asks you to remove the installation USB medium, and any key, a click, or the Restart now button restarts at once, with no warnings from the desktop when the stick is pulled. The restart shuts devices down cleanly first.
- Wi-Fi password field gets the cursor (#234). Pick a secured network and type the password straight away. The NetworkManager dialog library had its own focus code switched off, so a small module now puts the cursor in the password field.
- The Brisk menu shows a real power symbol (#235) instead of a dot.
- The first user is UID/GID 1000 (#227) on new installs.
- Share folders with Windows computers from Caja (#253). Right-click a folder and choose Sharing Options. Samba,
caja-shareandwsddare included, and user shares are enabled. - App updates show up promptly (#237, #250). Spaced Update refreshes Flatpak app information before checking, so a new version such as rhYciv 0.2.3 is offered and shown correctly. Two fixes elsewhere support this: SpacedBazaar's repository repairs the system-wide app information that had been failing to refresh, and new rhYciv releases publish immediately.
- Spaced Welcome 0.1.18. Every suggested app has its own Install button. Web links offer to install Brave when no browser is installed, instead of opening in a text editor. rhYciv is described properly (#252).
- Preferences > Windows is hidden (#256). It only configured the old window manager and reported "unsupported" under Compiz.
Installed systems receive 10.26 through Spaced Update. The new first-user IDs apply to new installs only.
Validation:
- Clean local ISO build from the
release/10.26tree, identical tomain(commit a845c57). - QEMU/KVM smoke tests passed on BIOS (36 s) and UEFI (50 s), reaching the MATE and Compiz desktop.
- Full installs in BIOS and UEFI VMs, booted from a virtual USB stick: Calamares reached "All done", Done showed the black USB prompt, the stick was pulled without any desktop warnings, and a key press or a click on Restart now restarted into the installed system.
- Installed systems: the first user is
uid=1000 gid=1000(including a user nameduser),net usershare addworks, and Welcome's SpacedLinux.com link offered Brave, installed it from Flathub and opened the page. - Live ISO: the Brisk menu shows the power symbol, nm-applet runs with the password-focus module, and all Calamares groups have system GIDs.
- Installed on real laptop hardware by the maintainer.
- Every Spaced package in the ISO is byte-identical to the one published in the APT repository; the repository's signature, index and payload integrity tests passed.
