Spaced Linux 10.26.7 fixes the current high-priority desktop and update reports that could be resolved and verified without affected physical hardware.

Highlights

  • Spaced Update keeps package maintainer-script stdout usable while APT progress uses a dedicated file descriptor, preventing DKMS and similar failures during large upgrades (#373).
  • Caja preserves Show Hidden Files, Compiz Window Previews work for new and existing accounts, and screenshots receive timestamped collision-safe names (#350, #361, #362, #372).
  • Global shortcut defaults are conservative, and MATE custom shortcuts can select applications, scripts, and ordinary files correctly (#351). The MATE-side improvement is also proposed upstream in mate-control-center PR #837.
  • Brisk Menu adds Properties, Uninstall, Check for Updates, and per-user Change Icon actions (#354).
  • Alacarte is used as the application editor and SVG files retain Eye of MATE as their default viewer (#372).
  • The GPU Driver Manager preserves a loaded proprietary NVIDIA driver confirmed working by nvidia-smi; replacement requires an explicit choice (#334).

The implementation was reviewed and merged in PR #376. The signed 10.26.7 APT repository was published before this release at spaced-apt commit 4719c42.

Validation

  • 253 unit tests and two GTK/Xvfb desktop tests passed.
  • Packaging, source-package, dependency, signed-repository trust, and tamper-rejection checks passed.
  • The final ISO reached the live MATE/Compiz desktop under KVM BIOS, KVM UEFI, VirtualBox BIOS, and VirtualBox UEFI; Calamares was running and visible in both VirtualBox modes.
  • All 13 desktop theme presets passed runtime probes on the final ISO in KVM BIOS.
  • Every runtime report identified Spaced Linux 10.26.7, the expected package versions, and an empty dpkg --audit result.

Known high-priority follow-up

  • #334 remains open for a real GTX 1060/current-470-series preservation test. The preventive behavior is implemented and automatically tested, but a VM cannot certify the affected hardware path.
  • #374 remains open pending logs from the flickering blank-login occurrence. No speculative LightDM or graphics change was included without a reproducible cause.
