  • Comprehension surface: chameleon now does both conformance and
    comprehension.
The committed conformance profile (symbol index, calls index,
archetypes, canonicals) doubles as a queryable comprehension layer, so an
assistant can understand and navigate existing code, not just shape new edits,
off ONE profile, offline and with no repo-code execution. Three new MCP tools:

    • search_codebase(query) finds symbols by name or file from the committed
      symbol index, ranked exact name > prefix > substring > all-tokens > file-path
with the more-called symbol breaking ties. The "where is X / find Y" query
chameleon previously could not answer. Each result carries name, file, line,
signature, and caller count; the result count is clamped to
      COMPREHEND_SEARCH_MAX_RESULTS.
    • describe_codebase() returns a structural overview from the profile: the
primary language and framework, the archetypes (kinds of files, each with
size, summary, and canonical witness), file/symbol totals, and the god
symbols (the most-called production functions, test files excluded).
    • get_callees(file, function) answers "what does this function call"
(forward edges) by inverting the reverse calls index, completing the
navigation surface alongside get_callers and get_blast_radius, with the
      same three deterministic grades.

All three are trust-gated, sanitized, fail open, and read only the committed
artifacts. SymbolSignatures and CallsIndex gained items() accessors for
    the whole-index walks comprehension needs.
